Crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of 2-phenyl-1H-phenanthro[9,10-d]imidazol-3-ium benzoate.

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C21H15N2 +·C7H5O2 -, 2-phenyl-1H-phenanthro[9,10-d]imidazole and benzoic acid form an ion pair complex. The system is consolidated by hydrogen bonds along with ?-? inter-actions and N-H?? inter-actions between the constituent units. For a better understanding of the crystal structure and inter-molecular inter-actions, a Hirshfeld surface analysis was performed.

Project description:In the title compound, C(12)H(16)N(4) (+)·2C(7)H(4)NO(4) (-), the complete 2,2'-(p-phenyl-ene)bis-(4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-3-ium) (bib) dication is generated by crystallographic inversion symmetry. The bib cations reside on crystallographic inversion centers, which coincide with the centroids of the respective benzene rings. In the cation, the imidazole ring adopts an envelop conformation with the flap atom displaced by 0.082 (3) Å from the plane through the other ring atoms. In the crystal, the cations and anions are linked through inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming chains running along the a axis. C-H⋯O inter-actions also occur. Weak π-π contacts between the imidazole rings of bib and between the benzene rings of NB [centroid-centroid distances = 3.501 (1) and 3.281 (2) Å, respectively] may further stabilize the structure.

Project description:In the title compound, C(22)H(16)O(2), the phenanthrene ring system is essentially planar [maximum deviation = 0.058 (1) Å] and is inclined at an angle of 58.39 (6)° to the phenyl ring. The 1,4-dioxane ring is in a chair conformation. In the crystal, mol-ecules are stacked along the b axis, but no significant hydrogen bonds are observed.

Crystal structures of the two salts 2-methyl-1H-imidazol-3-ium nitrate-2-methyl-1H-imidazole (1/1) and 2-methyl-1H-imidazol-3-ium nitrate.

Project description:The title salts, C4H7N2 (+)·NO3 (-)·C4H6N2, (I), and C4H7N2 (+)·NO3 (-), (II), were obtained from solutions containing 2-methyl-imidazole and nitric acid in different concentrations. In the crystal structure of salt (I), one of the -NH H atoms of the imidazole ring shows half-occupancy, hence only every second mol-ecule is in its cationic form. The nitrate anion in this structure lies on a twofold rotation axis. The neutral 2-methyl-imidazole mol-ecule and the 2-methyl-1H-imidazol-3-ium cation inter-act through N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds to form [(C4H6N2)⋯(C4H7N2)(+)] pairs. These pairs are linked with two nitrate anions on both sides through bifurcated N-H⋯(O,O) hydrogen bonds into chains running parallel to [001]. In the crystal structure of salt (II), the C4H7N2 (+) cation and the NO3 (-) anion are both located on a mirror plane, leading to a statistical disorder of the methyl H atoms. The cations and anions again inter-act through bifurcated N-H⋯(O,O) hydrogen bonds, giving rise to the formation of chains consisting of alternating anions and cations parallel to [100].

Project description:In this study, four new piperazinium salts, namely, 4-phenyl-piperazin-1-ium 4-eth-oxy-benzoate monohydrate, C9H9O3·C10H15N2·H2O (I); 4-phenyl-piperazin-1-ium 4-meth-oxy-benzoate monohydrate, C10H15N2·C8H7O3·H2O (II); 4-phenyl-piperazin-1-ium 4-methyl-benzoate monohydrate, C10H15N2·C8H7O2·H2O (III); and 4-phenyl-piperazin-1-ium tri-fluoro-acetate 0.12 hydrate, C10H15N2·C2F3O2·0.12H2O (IV), have been synthesized. The single-crystal structures of these compounds reveal that all of them crystallize in the triclinic P space group and the crystal packing of (I)-(III) is built up of ribbons formed by a combination of hydrogen bonds of type N-H⋯O, O-H⋯O and other weak inter-actions of type C-H⋯O and C-H⋯π, leading to a three-dimensional network. In the crystal of (IV), the cations and the anions are connected by C-H⋯O, N-H⋯O and C-H⋯F hydrogen bonds and by C-H⋯π inter-actions, forming sheets which in turn inter-act to maintain the crystal structure by linking through the oxygen atoms of water mol-ecules and van der Waals inter-actions, giving the whole structure.

Bis[2-(4,5-diphenyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-4-nitrophenolato]copper(II) dihydrate: crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis.

Project description:The crystal and mol-ecular structures of the title CuII complex, isolated as a dihydrate, [Cu(C21H14N3O3)2]·2H2O, reveals a highly distorted coordination geometry inter-mediate between square-planar and tetra-hedral defined by an N2O2 donor set derived from two mono-anionic bidentate ligands. Furthermore, each six-membered chelate ring adopts an envelope conformation with the Cu atom being the flap. In the crystal, imidazolyl-amine-N-H?O(water), water-O-H?O(coordinated, nitro and water), phenyl-C-H?O(nitro) and ?(imidazol-yl)-?(nitro-benzene) [inter-centroid distances = 3.7452?(14) and 3.6647?(13)?Å] contacts link the components into a supra-molecular layer lying parallel to (101). The connections between layers forming a three-dimensional architecture are of the types nitro-benzene-C-H?O(nitro) and phenyl-C-H??(phen-yl). The distorted coordination geometry for the CuII atom is highlighted in an analysis of the Hirshfeld surface calculated for the metal centre alone. The significance of the inter-molecular contacts is also revealed in a study of the calculated Hirshfeld surfaces; the dominant contacts in the crystal are H?H (41.0%), O?H/H?O (27.1%) and C?H/H?C (19.6%).

Crystal structure of 1H-imidazol-3-ium 2-(1,3-dioxoisoindolin-2-yl)acetate.

Project description:The title salt, C3H5N2 (+)·C10H6NO4 (-), was obtained during a study of the co-crystallization of N'-[bis-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl-ene]isonicotinohydrazide with (1,3-dioxoisoindolin-2-yl)acetic acid under aqueous conditions. The 1,3-dioxoisoindolinyl ring system of the anion is essentially planar [maximum deviation = 0.023 (2) Å]. In the crystal, cations and anions are linked via classical N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network. Weak C-H⋯π inter-actions and π-π stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.4728 (13) and 3.7339 (13) Å] also occur in the crystal.
