Bringing Order out of Chaos: Establishing an Epistatic Relationship between CD33 and TREM2.

ABSTRACT: TREM2 and CD33 are microglial receptors associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk. In this issue of Neuron, Griciuc et al. (2019) demonstrate opposing effects of CD33 and TREM2 on AD phenotypes, where CD33 deletion promotes neuroprotection in a manner dependent on TREM2.
