The biologically active form of vitamin D<sub>3</sub>, 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D<sub>3</sub> (1,25(OH)<sub>2</sub>D<sub>3</sub>), modulates innate and adaptive immunity via genes regulated by the transcription factor vitamin D receptor (VDR).
