ABSTRACT: Patients with jaundice and abdominal pain should be assessed immediately for biliary obstruction. The development of cholangitis, or an inflammation of the bile ducts, can lead to infection. A nurse practitioner must complete a thorough health history and physical examination to assist in differentiating potential causes of jaundice.
