Addressing Comorbidities in Heart Failure: Hypertension, Atrial Fibrillation, and Diabetes.

ABSTRACT: Heart failure (HF) is a growing global epidemic and an increasingly cumbersome burden on health care systems worldwide. As such, optimal management of existing comorbidities in the setting of HF is particularly important to prevent disease progression, reduce HF hospitalizations, and improve quality of life. In this review, the authors address 3 key comorbidities commonly associated with HF: hypertension, atrial fibrillation, and diabetes mellitus. They comprehensively describe the epidemiology, management, and emerging therapies in these 3 disease states as they relate to the overall HF syndrome.
