Cu-Kojic Acid Complex Anchored to Functionalized Silica-MCM-41: A Promising Regioselective and Reusable Nanocatalyst for Click Reaction.

ABSTRACT: Cu-Kojic acid (KA) complex anchored to functionalized silica-MCM-41 was synthesized via the process of postgrafting and introduced as an effective, new, reusable, and thermally resistant heterogeneous nanocatalyst for the clean synthesis of 1H-1,2,3-triazoles from Click reaction of 2-(azidomethyl)-5-benzyloxy-4-pyrone and azido Kojic acid with a variety of terminal alkynes in excellent yields. The structure of nanocatalyst was analyzed by ICP, BET, XRD, EDS, SEM, TGA, TEM, and FT-IR techniques.

Project description:We have developed an innovative mesoporous nanocatalyst by carefully attaching a 2-aminothiophenol-Cu complex onto functionalized MCM-41. This straightforward synthesis process has yielded a versatile nanocatalyst known for its outstanding efficiency, recyclability, and enhanced stability. The structural integrity of the nanocatalyst was comprehensively analyzed using an array of techniques, including BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) for surface area measurement, ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) for metal content determination, EDS (Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy) for elemental mapping, XRD (X-ray Diffraction) for crystalline structure elucidation, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), EMA (Elemental Mapping Analysis), TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis), FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy), AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy), and CV (cyclic voltammetry). Subsequently, the catalytic properties of the newly developed MCM-41-CPTEO-2-aminothiophenol-Cu catalyst was evaluated in the synthesis of biphenyls, demonstrating outstanding yields through a Suzuki coupling reaction between phenylboronic acid and aryl halides. Importantly, this reaction was conducted in an environmentally friendly medium. Note the remarkable recyclability of the catalyst, proving its sustainability over six cycles with minimal loss in activity additionally hot filtration test was prepared to examine the stability of this nanocatalyst. This outstanding feature emphasizes the catalyst's potential for long-term, environmentally conscious catalytic applications.

Tamoxifen Delivery System Based on PEGylated Magnetic MCM-41 Silica.

Project description:Magnetic iron oxide containing MCM-41 silica (MM) with ~300 nm particle size was developed. The MM material before or after template removal was modified with NH2- or COOH-groups and then grafted with PEG chains. The anticancer drug tamoxifen was loaded into the organic groups' modified and PEGylated nanoparticles by an incipient wetness impregnation procedure. The amount of loaded drug and the release properties depend on whether modification of the nanoparticles was performed before or after the template removal step. The parent and drug-loaded samples were characterized by XRD, N2 physisorption, thermal gravimetric analysis, and ATR FT-IR spectroscopy. ATR FT-IR spectroscopic data and density functional theory (DFT) calculations supported the interaction between the mesoporous silica surface and tamoxifen molecules and pointed out that the drug molecule interacts more strongly with the silicate surface terminated by silanol groups than with the surface modified with carboxyl groups. A sustained tamoxifen release profile was obtained by an in vitro experiment at pH = 7.0 for the PEGylated formulation modified by COOH groups after the template removal. Free drug and formulated tamoxifen samples were further investigated for antiproliferative activity against MCF-7 cells.

Project description:In this work, mesoporous MCM-41 was modified by a new Schiff-base formed from the condensation of triethylenetatramine and 5-bromosalicylaldehyde. Then, it was used for the stabilization of lanthanum metal (La-Schiff base@MCM-41) as a homoselective, reusable, efficient and biocompatible catalyst in the synthesis of 5-substituted 1H-tetrazole derivatives. The synthesized tetrazoles were characterized using 1H NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy and methods to measure their physical properties. La-Schiff base@MCM-41 was characterized by using various techniques such as ICP, CHN, XRD, TGA, BET, FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM, EDS and WDX. This catalyst has good stability and a heterogeneous nature, enabling it to be easily recovered and reused several times without significant loss in catalytic activity. This present strategy has important advantages such as utilizing PEG as a green solvent, short reaction times, excellent yields, easy recycling of the catalyst and pure separation of the products. The recovered La-Schiff base@MCM-41 catalyst was characterized by using FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM and AAS.

Synthesis of N,N'-alkylidene bisamides and Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction derivatives with Pd organometallic catalyst anchored to channels of mesoporous silica MCM-41.

Project description:At first, an organometallic catalyst namely, Pd-DPyE@MCM-41@MNP was prepared through magnetic (Fe3O4) nanoparticles-doped into channels of mesoporous silica MCM-41 and then, anchoring a novel complex composed of di(4-pyridyl)ethylene and palladium on the inner surface of the support. This immobilized catalyst was successfully identified via VSM, ICP-OES, TEM, FTIR, TGA, SEM, BET, XRD, EDX and elemental mapping analyses. After that, it was used as a versatile, heterogeneous, and magnetically reproducible catalyst in the generation of N,N'-alkylidene bisamides (1a-13a, 8-20 min, 90-98%, 50 °C, solvent-free) and Suzuki-Miyaura coupling (SMC) reaction derivatives (1b-26b, 10-140 min, 86-98%, 60 °C, PEG-400). The VSM plot of Pd-DPyE@MCM-41@MNP displays that this nanocatalyst can be easily recycled by applying an external magnetic field. In both synthetic paths, this nanocatalyst was reused at least seven times without palladium leaching and significantly reducing its catalytic performance. Also, stability and heterogeneous nature of catalyst were approved via ICP-OES technique and hot filtration test.

Alcohols react with MCM-41 at room temperature and chemically modify mesoporous silica.

Project description:Mesoporous silica has received much attention due to its well-defined structural order, high surface area, and tunable pore diameter. To successfully employ mesoporous silica for nanotechnology applications it is important to consider how it is influenced by solvent molecules due to the fact that most preparation procedures involve treatment in various solvents. In the present work we contribute to this important topic with new results on how MCM-41 is affected by a simple treatment in alcohol at room temperature. The effects of alcohol treatment are characterized by TGA, FTIR, and sorption calorimetry. The results are clear and show that treatment of MCM-41 in methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, pentanol, or octanol at room temperature introduces alkoxy groups that are covalently bound to the silica surface. It is shown that alcohol treated MCM-41 becomes more hydrophobic and that this effect is sequentially more prominent going from methanol to octanol. Chemical formation of alkoxy groups onto MCM-41 occurs both for calcined and hydroxylated MCM-41 and the alkoxy groups are hydrolytically unstable and can be replaced by silanol groups after exposure to water. The results are highly relevant for mesoporous silica applications that involve contact or treatment in protic solvents, which is very common.

Zn Complex on Tryptophan-Functionalized MCM-41 as an Efficient and Promising Reusable Nanocatalyst in One-Pot Three-Component Synthesis of Amino Benzyl Quinolinols and Naphthols via a Betti Reaction.

Project description:In this research, a Zn transition metallic complex on functionalized mesopore silica MCM-41 has been designed and utilized as an effective, recoverable, and thermally stable heterogeneous nanocatalyst in the formation of the C-C bond. Also, the synthesis of amino benzyl quinolinols and amino benzyl naphthol derivatives was performed by the three-component reaction of Betti from aromatic aldehydes, type II amines, and 8-hydroxyquinoline and 1-naphthol in the presence of the MCM-41-tryptophan-Zn nanocatalyst under reflux conditions. The short reaction times, high efficiency of the products, the easy separation of catalysts due to their heterogeneity, and their reusability are the advantages of this method. Finally, the nature of catalysts was studied by using some techniques such as the Fourier transform infrared spectrum, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, hot filtration test, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry, and N2 adsorption-desorption (BET). The synthesized heterogeneous catalysts showed perfect catalytic activity and also good recyclability in the Betti reaction. They could be reused at least for five consecutive cycles without significant loss of their catalytic activities.

Project description:The [CTA]-MCM-41 hybrid silica is a useful and simply prepared heterogeneous basic catalyst for the transesterification reaction. Here, the effect of hydrothermal treatment during catalyst preparation was investigated, with the aim of improving the structural stability of this catalyst during the reaction. It was observed that the hydrothermal step led to the formation of a material with a higher degree of organization and a greater wall thickness, which improved its structural stability. However, the catalyst prepared using this treatment presented lower catalytic activity, due to the presence of fewer active sites.

A recyclable and reusable supported Cu(I) catalyzed azide-alkyne click polymerization.

Project description:The azide-alkyne click polymerization (AACP) has emerged as a powerful tool for the synthesis of functional polytriazoles. While, for the Cu(I)-catalyzed AACP, the removal of the catalytic Cu(I) species from the resulting polytriazoles is difficult, and the research on the recyclability and reusability of the catalyst remains intact. Herein, we reported the first example of using recyclable and reusable supported Cu(I) catalyst of CuI@A-21 for the AACP. CuI@A-21 could not only efficiently catalyze the AACP but also be reused for at least 4 cycles. Moreover, pronounced reduction of copper residues in the products was achieved. Apart from being a green and cost-effective polymer synthesis strategy, this method will also broaden the application of AACP in material and biological sciences and provide guidelines for other polymerizations with metal catalysts.

Fabrication of the magnetic mesoporous silica Fe-MCM-41-A as efficient adsorbent: performance, kinetics and mechanism.

Project description:Antibiotics are emerging pollutants and increasingly present in aquaculture and industrial wastewater. Due to their impact on the environment and health, their removal has recently become a significant concern. In this investigation, we synthesized nano zero-valent iron-loaded magnetic mesoporous silica (Fe-MCM-41-A) via precipitation and applied the adsorption of oxytetracycline (OTC) from an aqueous solution. The effects of competing ions such as Na+, Ca2+ and Cu2+ on the adsorption process under different pH conditions were studied in depth to providing a theoretical basis for the application of nanomaterials. The characterization of the obtained material through transmission electron microscopy demonstrates that the adsorbent possesses hexagonal channels, which facilitate mass transfer during adsorption. The loaded zero-valent iron made the magnetic, and was thus separated under an applied magnetic field. The adsorption of OTC onto Fe-MCM-41-A is rapid and obeys the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and the maximum adsorption capacity of OTC is 625.90 mg g-1. The reaction between OTC and Fe-MCM-41-A was inner complexation and was less affected by the Na+. The effect of Ca2+ on the adsorption was small under acidic and neutral conditions. However, the promotion effect of Ca2+ increased by the increase of pH. Cu2+ decreased the removal efficiencies continuously and the inhibitory effects decrease varied with the increase of pH. We propose that surface complexing, ion-exchange, cationic π-bonding, hydrogen bonding, and hydrophobicity are responsible for the adsorption of OTC onto Fe-MCM-41-A.
