Data set for power system reliability analysis using a four-area test network.

ABSTRACT: This article presents a test data set combining data relevant for power system reliability analysis, including network data, reliability data, basic interruption cost data, and exemplary operating state data. The data set originated as a data set for testing power market models with network constraints and was later extended for use in integrated power market and power system reliability analyses. The network model consists of 25 buses and four price (market) areas representing small regions of the Nordic power system. Three of the areas are meshed but with relatively weak connections between them, and a fourth area is represented by a single bus connected by an HVDC cable. Reliability data (failure rates and outage times) are based on statistics from the Norwegian standardised system FASIT for collection, calculation and reporting of disturbance and reliability data.

Reliability, Validity, and Minimal Detectable Change of Four-Step Stair Climb Power Test in Community-Dwelling Older Adults.

Project description:Stair climb power is an important clinical measure of lower-extremity power. The stair climb power test (SCPT) was validated by requiring individuals to climb a full flight of stairs. A 4-step SCPT (4SCPT) would be more clinically feasible and easier to perform, yet its reliability and validity are unknown.To evaluate reliability, validity, and minimal detectable change of 4SCPT among community-dwelling older adults.This study is a cross-sectional analysis of baseline data from a clinical trial.Fifty older adults ?65 years of age, at risk for mobility decline, consented to participate in this ancillary study. Test-retest reliability was derived from 2 measurements within each participant measured by a single assessor. Pearson correlation analyses among leg power measures (4SCPT, SCPT, single leg press power at 40% and 70% of the 1-repetition maximum [SLP40, SLP70]) were performed. Separate multivariate linear regressions were conducted evaluating the associations between each leg power measure and 2 mobility outcomes, the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) and habitual gait speed (HGS). Minimal detectable change was based on a 90% confidence interval (MDC 90 ).The 4SCPT had excellent test-retest reliability (ICC(2,1) = 0.951), and strong correlation with SCPT, SLP40, and SLP70 ( r = 0.85-0.96). The 4SCPT explained a greater amount of variance in the SPPB (R 2 = 0.31) than other leg power measurements (R 2 = 0.23-0.25). The 4SCPT (R 2 = 0.41) and SCPT (R 2 = 0.42) described equivalent amounts of variance in HGS, and greater than that with SLP40 (R 2 = 0.28) and SLP70 (R 2 = 0.30). The MDC 90 for 4SCPT was 44.0 watts.This was a cross-sectional analysis within a small, nonrepresentative sample. Interrater reliability was not evaluated.The 4SCPT shows scientific promise as a valid and reliable leg power measurement among community-dwelling older adults.

A data set for electric power consumption forecasting based on socio-demographic features: Data from an area of southern Colombia.

Project description:In this article, we introduce a data set concerning electric-power consumption-related features registered in seven main municipalities of Nariño, Colombia, from December 2010 to May 2016. The data set consists of 4427 socio-demographic characteristics, and 7 power-consumption-referred measured values. Data were fully collected by the company Centrales Eléctricas de Nariño (CEDENAR) according to the client consumption records. Power consumption data collection was carried following a manual procedure wherein company workers are in charge of manually registering the readings (measured in kWh) reported by the electric energy meters installed at each housing/building. Released data set is aimed at providing researchers a suitable input for designing and assessing the performance of forecasting, modelling, simulation and optimization approaches applied to electric power consumption prediction and characterization problems. The data set, so-named in shorthand PCSTCOL, is freely and publicly available at https://doi.org/10.17632/xbt7scz5ny.3.

Test-Retest Reliability of Velocity and Power in the Deadlift and Squat Exercises Assessed by the GymAware PowerTool System

Project description:We explored the test-retest reliability of velocity and power assessed by the GymAware PowerTool system (GYM) in the deadlift and squat by simulating a context with and without a familiarization session. Sixteen resistance-trained individuals completed three testing sessions. In all sessions, velocity and power were assessed by the GYM system in the deadlift and squat exercises with loads of 30, 45, 60, 75, and 90% of one-repetition maximum. The consistency of test results between the first session and the second session was considered to represent the reliability with no familiarization session. The consistency of test results between the second session and the third session was considered to represent the reliability with one familiarization session because the first session simulates a familiarization session. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) ranged 0.63–0.99 in the deadlift, and 0.78–0.99 in the squat. ICCs were higher than 0.75 for 93 and 100% of all deadlift and squat tests, respectively. For velocity and power, standard error of measurement ranged 0.03–0.08 m/s and 20–176 W, respectively. The coefficient of variation ranged 2.2–10.6% for the deadlift and 2.6–6.9% for the squat tests. Except for peak and mean velocity at 30% of 1RM in the squat, we found no significant improvements in reliability with a familiarization session. The test-retest reliability of velocity and power assessed by the GYM system was moderate-to-excellent for the deadlift and good-to-excellent for the squat. Reliability of velocity and power did not seem to improve with a familiarization session.

Predictive mapping of the global power system using open data.

Project description:Limited data on global power infrastructure makes it difficult to respond to challenges in electricity access and climate change. Although high-voltage data on transmission networks are often available, medium- and low-voltage data are often non-existent or unavailable. This presents a challenge for practitioners working on the electricity access agenda, power sector resilience or climate change adaptation. Using state-of-the-art algorithms in geospatial data analysis, we create a first composite map of the global power system with an open license. We find that 97% of the global population lives within 10 km of a MV line, but with large variations between regions and income levels. We show an accuracy of 75% across our validation set of 14 countries, and we demonstrate the value of these data at both a national and regional level. The results from this study pave the way for improved efforts in electricity modelling and planning and are an important step in tackling the Sustainable Development Goals.

Estimating uncertainty and reliability of social network data using Bayesian inference.

Project description:Social network analysis provides a useful lens through which to view the structure of animal societies, and as a result its use is increasingly widespread. One challenge that many studies of animal social networks face is dealing with limited sample sizes, which introduces the potential for a high level of uncertainty in estimating the rates of association or interaction between individuals. We present a method based on Bayesian inference to incorporate uncertainty into network analyses. We test the reliability of this method at capturing both local and global properties of simulated networks, and compare it to a recently suggested method based on bootstrapping. Our results suggest that Bayesian inference can provide useful information about the underlying certainty in an observed network. When networks are well sampled, observed networks approach the real underlying social structure. However, when sampling is sparse, Bayesian inferred networks can provide realistic uncertainty estimates around edge weights. We also suggest a potential method for estimating the reliability of an observed network given the amount of sampling performed. This paper highlights how relatively simple procedures can be used to estimate uncertainty and reliability in studies using animal social network analysis.

Test-retest reliability of EEG network characteristics in infants.

Project description:IntroductionFunctional Electroencephalography (EEG) networks in infants have been proposed as useful biomarkers for developmental brain disorders. However, the reliability of these networks and their characteristics has not been established. We evaluated the reliability of these networks and their characteristics in 10-month-old infants.MethodsData were obtained during two EEG sessions 1 week apart and was subsequently analyzed at delta (0.5-3 Hz), theta (3-6 Hz), alpha1 (6-9 Hz), alpha2 (9-12 Hz), beta (12-25 Hz), and low gamma (25-45 Hz) frequency bands. Connectivity matrices were created by calculating the phase lag index between all channel pairs at given frequency bands. To determine the reliability of these connectivity matrices, intra-class correlations were calculated of global connectivity, local connectivity, and several graph characteristics.ResultsComparing both sessions, global connectivity, as well as global graph characteristics (characteristic path length and average clustering coefficient) are highly reliable across multiple frequency bands; the alpha1 and theta band having the highest reliability in general. In contrast, local connectivity characteristics were less reliable across all frequency bands.ConclusionsWe conclude that global connectivity measures are highly reliable over sessions. Local connectivity measures show lower reliability over sessions. This research therefore underlines the possibility of these global network characteristics to be used both as biomarkers of neurodevelopmental disorders, but also as important factors explaining development of typical behavior.

Significant Inter-Test Reliability across Approximate Number System Assessments.

Project description:The approximate number system (ANS) is the hypothesized cognitive mechanism that allows adults, infants, and animals to enumerate large sets of items approximately. Researchers usually assess the ANS by having subjects compare two sets and indicate which is larger. Accuracy or Weber fraction is taken as an index of the acuity of the system. However, as Clayton et al. (2015) have highlighted, the stimulus parameters used when assessing the ANS vary widely. In particular, the numerical ratio between the pairs, and the way in which non-numerical features are varied often differ radically between studies. Recently, Clayton et al. (2015) found that accuracy measures derived from two commonly used stimulus sets are not significantly correlated. They argue that a lack of inter-test reliability threatens the validity of the ANS construct. Here we apply a recently developed modeling technique to the same data set. The model, by explicitly accounting for the effect of numerical ratio and non-numerical features, produces dependent measures that are less perturbed by stimulus protocol. Contrary to their conclusion we find a significant correlation in Weber fraction across the two stimulus sets. Nevertheless, in agreement with Clayton et al. (2015) we find that different protocols do indeed induce differences in numerical acuity and the degree of influence of non-numerical stimulus features. These findings highlight the need for a systematic investigation of how protocol idiosyncrasies affect ANS assessments.

Data for TROTS - The Radiotherapy Optimisation Test Set.

Project description:The Radiotherapy Optimisation Test Set (TROTS) is an extensive set of problems originating from radiotherapy (radiation therapy) treatment planning. This dataset is created for 2 purposes: (1) to supply a large-scale dense dataset to measure performance and quality of mathematical solvers, and (2) to supply a dataset to investigate the multi-criteria optimisation and decision-making nature of the radiotherapy problem. The dataset contains 120 problems (patients), divided over 6 different treatment protocols/tumour types. Each problem contains numerical data, a configuration for the optimisation problem, and data required to visualise and interpret the results. The data is stored as HDF5 compatible Matlab files, and includes scripts to work with the dataset.
