Complete mitochondrial genome of the deep pugnose ponyfish Secutor ruconius (Perciformes: Leiognathidae) in the East China Sea.

ABSTRACT: The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Secutor ruconius is firstly described in this article. The total length of mitogenome is16,465?bp. It contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, and 2 ribosomal RNA genes. The overall base composition of H-strand is 31.58% A, 28.65% C, 25.23% T, and 14.53% G, with an A?+?T bias of 56.81%. The phylogenetic analysis result showed that the S. ruconius, Zebrasoma flavescens, and Pristipomoides multidens were closely related.

Project description:Brama dussumieri is one of the members of the family Bramidae and is widely distributed in the North Pacific Ocean. In this study, we described the complete mitochondrial genome of B. dussumieri. The genome is 16,996bp in length, encoding the standard set of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, and 2 rRNA genes, with circular organization. The overall base composition of the whole mitochondrial genome was A (26.21%), T (25.65%), G (16.83%) and C (31.31%) with an AT bias of 51.86%. The ATG initiation codons are used in all protein-coding genes except COX1, and the stop codons of all the 13 protein-coding genes were complete.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Cepola schlegelii from the East China Sea.

Project description:Cepola schlegelii (Bleeker 1854) belongs to the genus Cepola in the family Cepolidae and order Priacanthiformes. The complete mitochondrial genome of C. schlegelii was sequenced and analyzed by a high-throughput sequencing approach. The full length of the genome is 17,020 bp, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and a non-coding control region (D-loop). Phylogenetic analysis based on complete mitochondrial genomes revealed that C. schlegelii was most closely related to Acanthocepola krusensternii. The complete mitochondrial sequence of C. schlegelii will enrich the mitochondrial genome database and provide useful resources for population genetics and evolution analyses.

Complete mitochondrial genome of the harmful algal bloom species Thalassiosira nordenskioeldii (Mediophyceae, Bacillariophyta) from the east China sea.

Project description:Thalassiosira nordenskioeldii is a common harmful algal bloom (HAB) species with worldwide distribution. Although barcode sequences of this ecologically important species have been published, no genome data have been published for T. nordenskioeldii. In this study, we constructed the complete mitochondrial genome (mtDNA) of a T. nordenskioeldii strain isolated from the East China Sea. The T. nordenskioeldii mtDNA is circular and has a length of 47,038 bp and a GC content of 30.84%. The mtDNA encodes 69 genes, including 40 protein-coding (PCGs), 27 tRNA and two rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis using concatenated amino acid sequences of 31 shared PCGs from 37 diatom mtDNAs revealed that the mtDNA of T. nordenskioeldii was fully resolved in a clade with that of Thalassiosira profunda. The mtDNA of T. nordenskioeldii showed high collinearity with those of T. profunda and Skeletonema marinoi with only minor rearrangements. The completion of Thalassiosira mtDNAs will facilitate evolutionary studies on species of the order Thalassiosirales and the class Mediophyceae.

Project description:In this study, we determined the first complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Coscinasterias acutispina Stimpson, 1862. The mitogenome was 16,186 bp in length and contained 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and 22 transfer RNA genes. The gene order and direction were identical to those of other asteroid starfish species. Phylogenetic analysis showed that C. acutispina was located at the basal position of Forcipulatida, belonging to the genus Coscinasterias within the family of Asteriidae.

Project description:The white seabream Diplodus sargus (Linnaeus, 1758) is a species of interest for commercial fisheries throughout its range of distribution and it is also reared using aquaculture techniques. Herein, we present the first complete sequence and annotation of the mitochondrial genome of this species. The D. sargus mitogenome is 16,515 base pairs in length and contains 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA, 22 tRNA, and 2 non-coding regions (D-loop and L-origin). The overall nucleotide composition is: 27.3% A, 28.9% C, 26.8% T, and 17.0% G. Maximum likelihood analyses placed D. sargus as a sister species of Diplodus puntazzo. This study provides valuable information for further studying identification methods and evolutionary relationships of Sparidae species.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Trematomus newnesi (Perciformes, Nototheniidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Trematomus newnesi was sequenced using an Illumina platform. The 18,602 bp mitogenome contains 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNAs, and 23 tRNAs (tRNAMet is duplicated). The eight stop codons are TAA, TAG, CTT, GTA, AAT, ACT, AGG, and TTA. Two start codons ATG and GTG are present. The GC content is 44.4% and AT content is 55.6%. A phylogenetic tree was generated using 13 species from three families. The results showed that T. newnesi is closely related to Pagothenia borchgrevinki in Nototheniidae. This study provides fundamental data for further genetic evolutionary studies on T. newnesi.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Lycodes tanakae (Perciformes: Zoarcidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Lycodes tanakae was sequenced for the first time from its muscle tissue using the next-generation sequencing method. Its mitochondrial genome was 16,594 base pairs in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and one control region. Its overall A, C, G, and T contents were 25.6%, 30.6%, 18.7%, and 25.2%, respectively. Its, A + T content (50.8%) was slightly higher than its G + C content (49.2%). A phylogenetic tree was built using 10 belonging to the order Perciformes and two species belonging to the order Scorpaeniformes.
