The complete mitochondrial genome of Sorubim Lima (Siluriformes, Pimelodidae).

ABSTRACT: The complete mitochondrial DNA genome of Sorubim lima was first reported by next-generation sequencing method. The entire length of mitochondrial genome is 16,539 bp and the nucleotide composition was made up of 32.1% A, 24.9% T, 28.0% C, and 15.0% G, indicating an A + T (57.0%)-rich feature. With the exception of 8 tRNA genes and NADH6, mitochondrial genes are encoded on the heavy strand, which was similar to that in other vertebrates. The results showed that the species of Pimelodidae were gathered in the same branch. The phylogenies indicate monophyly of the genus Pseudoplatystoma, Pimelodus and Sorubim.

Project description:The threadfin sea catfish (Arius arius) belongs to the genus Arius in Ariidae. In this paper, we initially determined the complete mitochondrial genome of Arius arius. The mitochondrial genome is 16, 711?bp in length, with the base composition on the heavy strand: A - 29.67%, T - 25.38%, C - 29.70% and G - 15.25%. It has the typical vertebrate mitochondrial gene arrangement, including 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes and a control region. Phylogenetic analysis showed that A. arius was clustered into the order of Siluriformes, and closely related to species in the family of Siluridae. The present study would contribute to genetic resources conservation and systematics study of A. arius.

Project description:In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Leiocassis argentivittatus has been determined by polymerase chain reaction methods for the first time. The overall base composition of Leiocassis argentivittatus mitogenome is 31.7% for A, 26.4% for C, 14.9% for G and 27.0% for T. The percentage of G?+?C content is 41.3%. The mitogenome is a circular DNA molecule of 16,534?bp in length with a D-loop region and contains 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes and 13 protein-coding genes. The mitochondrial genome sequencing for Leiocassis argentivittatus in this study provides important molecular data for further evolutionary analysis of Siluriformes.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Pareuchiloglanis myzostoma (Teleostei, Siluriformes).

Project description:Pareuchiloglanis myzostoma is a key-listed protected indigenous fish species in Nujiang, Yunnan, China. In this study, we firstly reported the complete mitochondrial genome of P. myzostoma, which was 16,584 bp in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and a non-coding control region (D-loop). The overall base composition of P. myzostoma was 30.7% for A, 24.2% for T, 16.0% for G, and 29.1% for C. Phylogenetic analysis showed that all Sisoridae species clustered together formed a monophyletic group. This work would provide a set of useful data on further molecular evolution studies of this precious species.

The complete genome of S. cochinchinensis would provide the basic dataset for further research on phylogenetics and conservation genetics of catfishes.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Cominate sea catfish Occidentarius platypogon (Siluriformes: Ariidae).

Project description:The mitochondrion genome of Occidentarius platypogon was assembled from Illumina short reads, and consisted of 16,714 base pairs, with 13 protein-coding, two ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), and 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes. Base composition is 30.7% A, 26.4% T, 28.5% C, and 14.4% G, and 42.9% GC content. Two start codon (ATG and GTG) and seven stop codon (TAA, ACT, CCT, TTA, CAT, AAT, and TAG) patterns were found in protein-coding genes. Control region presented the highest A?+?T (64%) and lowest G?+?C content (35.7%) among all mitochondrial regions.

Project description:The striped catfish, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus (Sauvage 1878), belongs to the family Pangasiidae, is an important economic freshwater species. We determined the complete mitogenome of the Pangasianodon hypophthalmus through sanger method. The complete mitochondrial genome of Pangasianodon hypophthalmus was a circular molecule of 16,469 bp with a total GC content of 44% which contains 37 genes, including 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 22 tRNAs genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that Pangasianodon hypophthalmus clustered together with other Pangasianodon species and was closely related to Pangasius larnaudii, both species belonged to Pangasianodon genus.

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence consisted of 16,534 base pairs (bp) encoding 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs) and two non-coding regions. The overall base composition of L. mediadiposalis was G + C: 44.8%, A + T: 55.2%, apparently with a slight AT bias. Phylogenetic analysis showed that L. mediadiposalis was closely related to Liobagrus reinii.

Complete mitochondrial genome of the Korean torrent catfish Liobagrus andersoni (Siluriformes, amblycipitidae).

Project description:The Korean torrent catfish (Liobagrus andersoni), an endemic species in Korea, is a member of the family Amblycipitidae. Herein, we report the first sequencing and assembly of the complete mitochondrial genome of L. andersoni. The complete mitochondrial genome is 16,514 bp long, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and a control region. It has the typical vertebrate mitochondrial gene arrangement. Phylogenetic analysis using mitochondrial genomes of 21 species showed that L. andersoni was clustered with L. marginatoides and L. nigricauda. This mitochondrial genome provides potentially important resources for addressing taxonomic issues and studying molecular evolution.

Complete mitochondrial genome of near threatened butter Catfish Ompok bimaculatus (Siluriformes: Siluridae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Ompok bimaculatus was obtained, using illumina high-throughput NextSeq 500 with 2 × 150 bp sequencing of mitochondrial DNA. The genome of O. bimaculatus was 16,482 bp in length (GenBank Accession No. KY887474) comprised of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes and a control region i.e. D-loop. In present mitogenome, 9 SSR were identified and validated in silico and secondary structures of all the 22 tRNA were predicted. The arrangement of genes was found identical to other siluriformes fish mitogenomes available in NCBI database. Phylogenetic relationship with closely related species were established which provide useful insights into taxonomic status of the species.
