The complete mitochondrial genome of Arius arius (Siluriformes: Ariidae).

ABSTRACT: The threadfin sea catfish (Arius arius) belongs to the genus Arius in Ariidae. In this paper, we initially determined the complete mitochondrial genome of Arius arius. The mitochondrial genome is 16, 711?bp in length, with the base composition on the heavy strand: A - 29.67%, T - 25.38%, C - 29.70% and G - 15.25%. It has the typical vertebrate mitochondrial gene arrangement, including 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes and a control region. Phylogenetic analysis showed that A. arius was clustered into the order of Siluriformes, and closely related to species in the family of Siluridae. The present study would contribute to genetic resources conservation and systematics study of A. arius.

Project description:The mitochondrion genome of Occidentarius platypogon was assembled from Illumina short reads, and consisted of 16,714 base pairs, with 13 protein-coding, two ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), and 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes. Base composition is 30.7% A, 26.4% T, 28.5% C, and 14.4% G, and 42.9% GC content. Two start codon (ATG and GTG) and seven stop codon (TAA, ACT, CCT, TTA, CAT, AAT, and TAG) patterns were found in protein-coding genes. Control region presented the highest A + T (64%) and lowest G + C content (35.7%) among all mitochondrial regions.

Project description:The chihuil sea catfish (Bagre panamensis) is endemic of the Eastern Pacific and is a species of fishery importance in the Mexican Pacific. The complete mitochondrial genome of Bagre panamensis has been assembled from Illumina sequencing data. The circular genome was 16,714 bp in lengh, and consist of 13 protein-coding, two ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), and 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes. Base composition is 30.8% A, 26.6% T, 28.2% C, and 14.4% G, and 42.6% GC content. Protein-coding genes present two start codon (ATG and GTG) and eight stop codon (TAA, TCT, CCT, TTA, CAT, AAT, ATT, and TAG). The control region possesses the highest A + T (64.4%) and lowest G + C content (35.6%) among all mitochondrial regions. These data would contribute to the evolutionary studies of related taxa.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Pareuchiloglanis myzostoma (Teleostei, Siluriformes).

Project description:Pareuchiloglanis myzostoma is a key-listed protected indigenous fish species in Nujiang, Yunnan, China. In this study, we firstly reported the complete mitochondrial genome of P. myzostoma, which was 16,584 bp in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and a non-coding control region (D-loop). The overall base composition of P. myzostoma was 30.7% for A, 24.2% for T, 16.0% for G, and 29.1% for C. Phylogenetic analysis showed that all Sisoridae species clustered together formed a monophyletic group. This work would provide a set of useful data on further molecular evolution studies of this precious species.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Sorubim Lima (Siluriformes, Pimelodidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial DNA genome of Sorubim lima was first reported by next-generation sequencing method. The entire length of mitochondrial genome is 16,539 bp and the nucleotide composition was made up of 32.1% A, 24.9% T, 28.0% C, and 15.0% G, indicating an A + T (57.0%)-rich feature. With the exception of 8 tRNA genes and NADH6, mitochondrial genes are encoded on the heavy strand, which was similar to that in other vertebrates. The results showed that the species of Pimelodidae were gathered in the same branch. The phylogenies indicate monophyly of the genus Pseudoplatystoma, Pimelodus and Sorubim.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Leiocassis argentivittatus (Siluriformes: Bagridae).

Project description:In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Leiocassis argentivittatus has been determined by polymerase chain reaction methods for the first time. The overall base composition of Leiocassis argentivittatus mitogenome is 31.7% for A, 26.4% for C, 14.9% for G and 27.0% for T. The percentage of G + C content is 41.3%. The mitogenome is a circular DNA molecule of 16,534 bp in length with a D-loop region and contains 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes and 13 protein-coding genes. The mitochondrial genome sequencing for Leiocassis argentivittatus in this study provides important molecular data for further evolutionary analysis of Siluriformes.

Marine catfishes (Ariidae-Siluriformes) from the Coastal Amazon: mitochondrial DNA barcode for a recent diversification group?

Project description:BackgroundAriidae species play a significant role as fishing resources in the Amazon region. However, the family's systematic classification is notably challenging, particularly regarding species delimitation within certain genera. This difficulty arises from pronounced morphological similarities among species, posing obstacles to accurate species recognition.MethodsFollowing morphological identification, mitochondrial markers (COI and Cytb) were employed to assess the diversity of Ariidae species in the Amazon.ResultsOur sampling efforts yielded 12 species, representing 92% of the coastal Amazon region's diversity. Morphological identification findings were largely corroborated by molecular data, particularly for species within the Sciades and Bagre genera. Nonetheless, despite morphological support, Cathorops agassizii and Cathorops spixii displayed minimal genetic divergence (0.010). Similarly, Notarius quadriscutis and Notarius phrygiatus formed a single clade with no genetic divergence, indicating mitochondrial introgression. For the majority of taxa examined, both COI and Cytb demonstrated efficacy as DNA barcodes, with Cytb exhibiting greater polymorphism and resolution. Consequently, the molecular tools utilized proved highly effective for species discrimination and identification.

The complete mitochondrial genome of P. sanitwongsei provided in this work would be helpful for further research on phylogenetics and conservation genetics of the Siluriformes and other orders.

The overall base composition of L. mediadiposalis was G + C: 44.8%, A + T: 55.2%, apparently with a slight AT bias. Phylogenetic analysis showed that L. mediadiposalis was closely related to Liobagrus reinii.

Project description:The striped catfish, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus (Sauvage 1878), belongs to the family Pangasiidae, is an important economic freshwater species. We determined the complete mitogenome of the Pangasianodon hypophthalmus through sanger method. The complete mitochondrial genome of Pangasianodon hypophthalmus was a circular molecule of 16,469 bp with a total GC content of 44% which contains 37 genes, including 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 22 tRNAs genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that Pangasianodon hypophthalmus clustered together with other Pangasianodon species and was closely related to Pangasius larnaudii, both species belonged to Pangasianodon genus.
