The complete mitochondrial genome of Undinula vulgaris (Dana, 1849) (Crustacea: Calanoida: Calanidae).

ABSTRACT: The present study reports, for the first time, the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Undinula vulgaris. The total mitogenome length of U. vulgaris was 15,303?bp with 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), and 1 non-coding region. Phylogenetic analysis showed that U. vulgaris belonged to the same family. This is the second report of the complete mitogenome sequence of the family Calanidae.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of the majoid crab, Oregonia gracilis, was determined from a specimen collected in Korea. The mitochondrial genome is 15,737 bp long and contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes. A maximum-likelihood phylogenetic tree based on the 13 PCGs of the mitochondria showed that O. gracilis is closely related to the genus Chinoecetes. The complete mitochondrial genome of O. gracilis provides valuable information on the mitochondrial evolution of majoid crabs.

Complete mitochondrial genome of the calanoid copepod Eurytemora affinis (Calanoida, Temoridae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome was sequenced from the calanoid copepod Eurytemora affinis. The sequenced total genome size was 18,553?bp. The mitochondrial genome of E. affinis has 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNAs, and 22 tRNAs. Of 13 PCGs, ND1, ND5, and ATP6 genes had incomplete stop codons TA-, T-, and TA-, respectively. Furthermore, the stop codons of the remaining eleven PCGs were TAG or TAA while the start codon of 13 PCGs was ATG (Cytb, ATP8, ATP6, and CO3 genes), ATT (CO1, ND2, ND3, ND4L, ND5, and ND6 genes), and ATA (ND1, ND4, and CO2 genes), respectively. The ratio of A?+?T and G?+?C nucleotides of 13 PCGs of E. affinis mitogenome showed 63.9% and 36.1%, respectively while those ratio of the entire sequences were 65.5% and 34.5%, respectively.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Pseudocrangonyx joolaei (Crustacea: Amphipoda: Pseudocrangonyctidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of a subterranean pseudocrangonyctid amphipod, Pseudocrangonyx joolaei, was determined in this paper. The complete mitogenome of P. joolaei was 14,814 bp in length with the typical 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, two ribosomal RNAs, and a control region (CR). The gene order of P. joolaei was unique in that the CR was an inversion, and the gene order of Pseudocrangonyx was not concordant when compared to that of P. daejeonensis, a subterranean amphipod found in Korea. A maximum-likelihood tree, constructed based on 26 eumalacostracan mitogenomes, confirmed that P. joolaei supported monophyly in the family Pseudocrangonyctidae and is most closely related to the superfamily Crangonyctoidea.

A new species in the genus Acartia Dana, 1846 (Crustacea, Copepoda, Calanoida, Acartiidae) from the South Pacific coastal waters of Nadi Bay, Fiji.

Project description:A new species in the genus Acartia, Acartia nadiensis sp. nov., is described from Fijian coastal waters. This species belongs to the subgenus Odontacartia based on the following morphological features: presence of a rostral filaments, a pointed process on the last prosomite, a serrated terminal spine on female P5, and the absence of a protrusion on the basis of the male right P5. This new species can be differentiated from its congeners by the combination of the absence of a spine on the first segment of the antennules, the short outer seta of female P5, and a medial spine on the exp-2 of the left male P5. Phylogenetic analyses using mitochondrial COI partial sequences show that the new species is distinct from its congeners.

Project description:The complete mitogenome sequence of a subterranean pseudocrangonyctid amphipod, Pseudocrangonyx daejeonensis, was determined. The complete mitogenome of P. daejeonensis was 15,069?bp in length with the typical 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), 2 ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), and a control region (CR). This is the first complete mitogenome sequence in the family Pseudocrangonyctidae. Interestingly, gene arrangements of most amphipod species were almost identical to the typical pan-crustacean ground pattern, whereas two PCGs, both of rRNAs and CR were translocated in P. daejeonensis. A maximum-likelihood tree, constructed based on 30 eumalacostracan mitogenomes, confirmed that P. daejeonensis is closely related to the crangonyctid Stygobromus indentatus and S. tenuis potomacus and supported the monophyly of the superfamily Crangonyctoidea.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Chionoecetes japonicus was sequenced using a specimen collected offshore in the East Sea. The genome includes 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and a control region (D-loop), with a total length of 16,060 bp. The overall nucleotide composition was 34.91% A, 17.29% C, 10.93% G, and 36.87% T, with 71.78% A + T. In the phylogenetic tree was constructed using maximum-likelihood and Bayesian inference analyses, C. japonicus and C. japonicus pacificus formed a genetic clade that was sister to C. opilio.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of the marine mysid, Siriella sp. was obtained by conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. Total length of Siriella sp. mitochondrial genome was 14,706?bp, with the base composition of 27% A, 21% C, 22% G, and 30% T with a high AT bias of 57%. The mitogenome of Siriella sp. contained 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and a putative control region. Maximum likelihood method-based phylogenetic reconstruction suggested the evolutionary relationship to other mysids within the order Mysida. Since Mysida contains numerous species across a wide range of water habitats, this information will provide an essential molecular reference to elucidate biogeography, phylogenetic distance, and evolutionary diversity in mysids. This is the first mitogenome information in the genus Siriella.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of an estuarine amphipod Grandidierella osakaensis was determined. The mitochondrial genome was 14,658 bp in length with 37 mitochondrial genes (13 protein-coding genes [PCGs], 2 ribosomal RNAs [rRNAs], and 22 transfer RNAs [tRNAs]). The order of PCGs of G. osakaensis was identical to those of other two Grandidierella species. A maximum likelihood-based phylogenetic analysis showed that G. osakaensis formed a monophyletic clade with the other two Grandidierella species within the infraorder Corophiida. The mitochondrial genome sequence obtained in this study provides useful information for further phylogenetic and ecological studies.
