Validation and Analysis of the European Quality Questionnaire in Italian Language.

ABSTRACT: The European Quality Questionnaire (euroQ2) is the culturally-adapted version to the European context of the Family Satisfaction in Intensive Care Unit (FS-ICU) and Quality of Dying and Death (QODD) tools in a single instrument divided into three parts (the last is optional). These tools were created for an adult setting. The aim of this study was the Italian validation and analysis of the euroQ2 tool. The Italian version of euroQ2 questionnaire was administered to the relatives, over 18 years of age, of adult intensive care unit patients, with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-r). For the re-test phase the questionnaire was administered a second time. One hundred questionnaires were filled in. The agreement between test and retest was between 17-19 out of 20 participants with an upward trend in the re-test phase. A measure of coherence and cohesion between the euroQ2 variables was given by Cronbach's alpha: in the first part of the questionnaire alpha was 0.82, in the second part it was 0.89. The linear Pearson's correlation coefficients between all questions showed a weak positive correlation. The results obtained agreed with the original study. This study showed a good stability of the answers, an indication of an unambiguous understanding of the Italian translation.

Project description:BackgroundNomophobia, which is a neologism derived from the combination of "no mobile," "phone," and "phobia" is considered to be a modern situational phobia and indicates a fear of feeling disconnected.ObjectiveNo psychometric scales are available in Italian for investigating such a construct. We therefore planned a translation and validation study of the Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q), which is an instrument developed by Yildirim and Correia. Subjects were recruited via an online survey using a snowball approach.MethodsThe NMP-Q was translated from English into Italian using a classical "backwards and forwards" procedure. In order to explore the underlying factor structure of the translated questionnaire, an exploratory factor analysis was carried out. A principal component analysis approach with varimax rotation was performed. Multivariate regression analyses were computed to shed light on the psychological predictors of nomophobia.ResultsA sample of 403 subjects volunteered to take part in the study. The average age of participants was 27.91 years (standard deviation 8.63) and the sample was comprised of 160 males (160/403, 39.7%) and 243 females (243/403, 60.3%). Forty-five subjects spent less than 1 hour on their mobile phone per day (45/403, 11.2%), 94 spent between 1 and 2 hours (94/403, 23.3%), 69 spent between 2 and 3 hours (69/403, 17.1%), 58 spent between 3 and 4 hours (58/403, 14.4%), 48 spent between 4 and 5 hours (48/403, 11.9%), 29 spent between 5 and 7 hours (29/403, 7.2%), 36 spent between 7 and 9 hours (36/403, 8.9%), and 24 spent more than 10 hours (24/403, 6.0%). The eigenvalues and scree plot supported a 3-factorial nature of the translated questionnaire. The NMP-Q showed an overall Cronbach alpha coefficient of 0.95 (0.94, 0.89, and 0.88 for the three factors). The first factor explained up to 23.32% of the total variance, while the second and third factors explained up to 23.91% and 18.67% of the variance, respectively. The total NMP-Q score correlated with the number of hours spent on a mobile phone.ConclusionsThe Italian version of the NMP-Q proved to be reliable.

Project description:BackgroundThe Quality of Recovery questionnaire (QoR-15) is an English instrument for measuring quality of recovery in surgical patients, not yet translated and validated in Italian when the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Piemonte studies were planned.ObjectiveTo produce the Italian version of the QoR-15 questionnaire, to evaluate its factorial structure and to assess the invariance between two types of surgery.MethodsThe Italian version (QoR-15I) was obtained translating and adapting the original version to the Italian context. The validation was performed suppling the QoR-15I to 3,784 patients enrolled in two parallel stepped wedge cluster randomised trials (ERAS Colon-rectum Piemonte; ERAS Gyneco Piemonte). The factor structure and its invariance between types of surgery was tested using confirmatory bifactor model and multi-group analysis. Comparative fit index (CFI), root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA), and standardized root mean square residual (SRMR) fit indices and their changes between nested models were used to assess the factor structure and the invariance.ResultsThe bifactor model showed good fit (RMSEA = 0.049, CFI =0.957, SRMR = 0.036) and provided a general recovery factor and two specific factors for physical and mental recovery. Eighty-four percent of the common variance is attributable to the general factor, and thus the QoR-15I is sufficiently 'one-dimensional' with an adequate reliability (ωh = 0.70). The ωs values for the physical and mental recovery factors were 0.01 and 0.13, respectively. Multigroup analysis supported configural (RMSEA = 0.053, CFI = 0.950, SRMR = 0.035) and metric invariance (ΔRMSEA = -0.004; ΔCFI = -0.002; ΔSRMR = 0.014), whereas the intercept constraint was removed from item 15 to obtain partial scalar invariance (ΔRMSEA = 0.002; ΔCFI = 0.007; ΔSRMR = 0.004). Construct validity was supported by a negative association of QoR-15I scores with all variables related to worse patient condition and more complex surgery.ConclusionOur results support the use of the QoR-15I as a valid, reliable, and clinically feasible tool for measuring the quality of recovery after surgery. The results of the confirmatory factor analyses suggest that a unique recovery score can be calculated and support measurement invariance of the QOR-15I across the two type of surgery, suggesting that the questionnaire has the same meaning and the same measurement parameters in colorectal and gynaecologic patients.

Project description:IntroductionThe literature lacks formally validated and reliable tools for the diagnosis of breakthrough cancer pain (BTcP). The Italian Questionnaire for BTcP diagnosis (IQ-BTP) is an 11-item questionnaire aimed at detecting potential-BTP and classifying it into three likelihood classes: high, intermediate, and low.MethodsA multicenter, prospective, and observational study was designed to validate the IQ-BTP. In three consecutive visits with each cancer patient, the demographic and clinical details of the patient, the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) scores, IQ-BTP outcomes, and clinicians' autonomous BTcP diagnosis (gold standard) and the agreement of this diagnosis with IQ-BTP outcomes were recorded. The assessed domains for IQ-BTP validation were: Validity, including content and face validity, construct validity (hypothesis testing, and cross-cultural validity\measurement invariance), and criterion validity; Reliability (internal consistency, reliability, and measurement error); Interpretability, and Responsiveness.ResultsSeven palliative and pain management facilities in Italy recruited 280 patients, yielding 753 evaluations. Using the IQ-BTP, the rate of potential-BTcP was 27.2%, of which its likely presence was high in 52.7% of patients, intermediate in 38.5, and low in 8.8%. The BPI item scores differed significantly between the two IQ-BTP classes (no-BTcP and potential-BTcP classes). The correlation of the latter class with BPI items was significant but low. The IQ-BTcP showed two principal components, accounting for 66.6% of the variance. Cronbach's α was 0.71. The agreement rate between the gold standard and IQ-BTP outcomes was 82%. Cohen's [Formula: see text] was 0.535. The IQ-BTP showed sensitivity and specificity of 69 and 86%, respectively.ConclusionsThe IQ-BTP extensive formal validation showed satisfactory psychometric and validity properties. Its content, face, construct, and criterion validities and its reliability, interpretability, and responsiveness were shown. Its use enabled potential-BTcP to be identified and differentiated into three likelihood classes with direct therapeutic and epidemiological implications. The latter may be confirmed in future studies.
