Complete mitochondrial genome sequence of a Chinese ferret-badger (Melogale moschata) and phylogenetic analysis.

ABSTRACT: Ferret-badger (Melogale moschata) is a widely distributed and rarely studied species. Therefore, we sequenced its complete mitochondrial genome, which is circular in shape with 16,511 bp length and have a structure typical to mammals. There is 98.67% similarity when compared with the reported sequence (HM106328). It contained 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 1 control regions (D-loop). This study can provide novel molecular information and genetic diversity of ferret-badger.

JX09-17(fb) is closely related to Chinese epidemic canine isolates in clade I.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Chinese salamander Batrachuperus pinchonii: genome characterization and phylogenetic analysis.

Project description:The complete mitogenome sequence of Batrachuperus pinchonii (Caudata: Hynobiidae) has been amplified and sequenced in this study. The overall base composition of B. pinchonii mitogenome is 33.9% for A, 19.7% for C, 13.6% for G, and 32.8% for T and has low GC content of 33.3%. The assembled mitogenome, consisting of 16,381?bp, has 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 1 D-loop region. All PCGs, except for ND6 gene, were encoded on H-strand. Phylogenetic analysis with the whole mitogenome sequences revealed a close relationship of B. pinchonii with B. tibetanus.

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence and phylogenetic analysis of Squalidus multimaculatus.

Project description:This study reports the complete mitochondrial genome of Squalidus multimaculatus. The length of the mitochondrial genome of S. multimaculatus is 16,597 bp, including 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and one control region. The overall base composition of A, G, T, and C is 28%, 18.8%, 25%, and 28.2%, respectively. A phylogenetic analysis by the neighbour-joining method showed a close relationship between S. multimaculatus and S. japonicus coreanus. We believe these results will provide essential data for phylogeographic studies of the genus Squalidus.

Complete mitochondrial genome sequence of tufted deer (Elaphodus cephalophus) with phylogenetic analysis.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of tufted deer (Elaphodus cephalophus) has been described in our research. The sequence of this genome is 16356?bp with a circular structure, and contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and one control region. When compare with the reference sequence (DQ873526), it shows that there are 262 variations, 4 base deletions and 13 base insertions. In this study we obtain a new complete mitochondrial genome sequence of tufted deer that provide effective molecular information for the diversity research and phylogenetic structure.

Complete mitochondrial genome sequence and phylogenetic analysis of Arion ater (Stylommatophora: Arionidae).

Project description:Arion ater are a group of mollusks, almost all of which live in a dark and humid environment during their life cycle. In this study, the complete mitogenome of Arion ater was sequenced using next generation sequencing, analyzed and compared with other Stylommatophorans. The total length of the mitochondrial genome is 14,314 bp and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 1 control region. The genome has a typical mitochondrial gene sequence of Arion. Phylogenetic analysis of the mitochondrial genomes of 27 species of Stylommatophora showed that the Arion ater, Arion rufus and Arion vulgaris forms a monophyletic group with other species.

Complete mitochondrial genome sequence and phylogenetic analysis of Lycodes polaris (Sabine, 1824).

Project description:Lycodes polaris is one of the most widely distributed and abundant eelpout species on the Arctic continental shelves with full mitogenome information unavailable. In this paper, complete mitochondrial genome of L. Polaris was determined with 16,595 bp in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and 2 non-coding regions (origin of light strand replication and control region). All the protein-coding genes choose ATG as start codon in addition to that COI using GTG. Most genes use TAA or TAG as the stop codon while three others ended with incomplete stop codons. Phylogenetic relationship of L. polaris was also reconstructed. Our result will provide important basis for further studies of L. polaris.

Characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Charybdis bimaculata and phylogenetic analysis.

Project description:In this study, the complete mitogenome of Charybdis bimaculata was sequenced and annotated. The mitogenome is 15,441?bp in length, containing 37 classical eukaryotic mitochondrial regions (13 typical protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes) and a non-coding control region. Most of the genes are initiated with ATA, ATG, and ATT, though GTG is also used as an initiation codon. Twelve PCGs stop with complete termination codon TAA and TAG, while Cob uses incomplete codon (T-). The phylogenetic relationships based on 13 PCGs show that C. bimaculata clusters closest to C. fariata and C. natator.

Project description:Sibu yak is famous for its excellent breed in Tibet and has become a magic way for local herdsmen to get rich. The Sibu yak, however, has been identified as an endangered bovine species. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Sibu yak (Bos grunniens) was sequenced. The complete mitochondrial genome is a circular molecule with 16,324 bp in length, including 2 rRNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, and a non-coding control region (D-loop). The entire nucleotide composition is A(33.70%), T(27.27%), C(25,81%), G(13.21%), respectively. Except that ND6 and 7 tRNAs （tRNA-Glu,tRNA-Pro,tRNA-Cys, tRNA-Tyr, tRNA-Ala, tRNA-Asn, and tRNA-Gln) are encoded on the light strand, the remaining genes are encoded on the heavy strand. As a valuable resource, we have compared it to related Bos species to understand the evolutionary history of Sibu yak.

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence and phylogenetic analysis for Inimicus japonicus (Scorpaeniformes: Synanceiidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of the Inimicus japonicus was analyzed by next-generation sequencing in this study. The mitogenome is 16,978 base pairs (bp) long and codes for 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNA), and 1 non-coding control region. The overall nucleotide composition of the mitogenome is: 29.61% for A, 29.16% for T, 25.26% for C, and 15.97% for G. Twenty-two tRNAs range from 67 to 74 bp in length, and 2 rRNA (12S and 16S) were 953 and 1,687 bp long, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis by neighbor-joining (NJ) method indicated that I. japonicus showed considerable genetic similarity (82%), and had a closer relationship in the phylogenetic tree to Synanceia verrucosa.

Complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Anax parthenope (Odonata: Anisoptera: Aeshnidae) and phylogenetic analysis.

Project description:Anax parthenope (Odonata: Aeshnidae) is a big dragonfly which can be seen patrolling around ponds, lakes and other still water. In this study, we sequenced and analyzed the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of A. parthenope. This mitogenome was 15,366 bp long and encoded 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs) and two ribosomal RNA unit genes (rRNAs). The nucleotide composition of the mitogenome was biased toward A and T, with 74.8% of A + T content (A 40.1%, T 34.7%, C 14.0%, G 11.2%). Gene order was conserved and identical to most other previously sequenced Aeshnidae dragonflies. Most PCGs of A. parthenope have the conventional start codons ATN (six ATG, three ATT, and two ATC), with the exception of cox1 and nad1 (TTG). Except for three genes (cox1, cox2, and nad5) end with the incomplete stop codon T--, all other PCGs terminated with the stop codon TAA. Phylogenetic analysis showed that A. parthenope is sister to Anax imperator with high support value. All 15 Anisoptera species constituted a major clade with well support, and Aeshnidae had a close relationship with Gomphidae and Libellulidae.
