The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Manglietia yuyuanensis (Magnoliaceae).

ABSTRACT: Manglietia yuyuanensis is an important afforestation and excellent broad-leaved tree species in southern China. In this study, we assembled the complete chloroplast genome of M. yuyuanensis based on the Illumina sequences, sequence analysis showed the genome was 160,078 bp in length presenting a typical quadripartite structure and contains an inverted repeat region (IR, 26,467 b), a small single-copy (SSC) region, and a large single-copy (LSC) region (18,785 and 88,359 bp, respectively). The overall GC content was 39.27%. The sequence contained 128 unique genes, including 81 protein-coding genes, 38 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The maximum-likelihood (ML) phylogenetic analysis revealed that M. maudiae was closely related to Manglietia insignis. A phylogenetic analysis revealed that M. yuyuanensis is closely related to Manglietia glaucifolia, with the genus Manglietia.

Project description:Manglietia ventii is a highly ornamental timber tree species that is listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List. This study was conducted on the complete chloroplast genome of M. ventii. The length of the chloroplast genome is 159,950 bp with GC content as 39.3%. One hundred and thirty-one functional genes were identified in the genome, which included 86 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 37 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that M. ventii is most closely related to M. megaphylla and M. aromatica, and the study provides new insights into the evolution of the Magnoliaceae.

Characteristic and phylogenetic analyses of chloroplast genome for an endangered species Manglietia lucida (Magnoliaceae).

Project description:Manglietia lucida is a threatened horticultural plant in Yunnan province of China. Now, the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of M. lucida was assembled. The cp genome of M. lucida was 160,134 bp in length and contained two short inverted repeat regions (26,595 bp), which were separated by a small single copy region (18,825 bp) and a large single copy region (88,119 bp). The cp genome encodes 108 unique genes, including 74 protein-coding genes, 30 transfer RNA genes and 4 ribosomal RNA genes. The topology of the phylogenetic tree showed that M. lucida was not formed a monophyletic clade but clustered together with genus Magnolia.

The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Michelia xinningia (Magnoliaceae).

Project description:Michelia xinningia is an evergreen garden plant with attractive and fragrant flowers. Michelia exhibits both interspecific and intraspecific phenotypic variability. However, the genetic diversity of M. xinningia has not been thoroughly investigated. This study analyzed the first chloroplast genome of M. xinningia, which was 160,082 bp, including a large single-copy (LSC) region of 88,112 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,798 bp, and a pair of inverted repeat (IRs) regions of 26,586 bp. It contained 133 genes, including 87 protein-coding genes, 38 transfer RNA genes, and eight ribosomal RNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that M. xinningia formed a close relationship with M. foveolata. This study will provide an opportunity to investigate genetic variation and could be useful for both species identification and conservation.

Project description:The chloroplast genome of the Magnolia species from Central America has never been reported. With its local use for food flavoring, medicine, and wood, M. mexicana has been of good economic importance. In the present study, the complete chloroplast genome of M. mexicana was assembled via the genome skimming data. As a typical quadripartite structure, the plastome of M. mexicana with 159,906 bp in length includes two inverted repeats (26,554 bp) separated by a small single copy region (18,761 bp) as well as a large single copy region (88,037 bp). This chloroplast genome consists of 131 different genes, including 86 protein coding genes (CDS), eight rRNA genes, and 37 tRNA genes. The maximum likelihood phylogenetic analysis showed that M. mexicana from Central America was closely related to an evergreen species, M. odoratissima from East Asia.

The cpDNA is 160,049 bps in length, contains a large single-copy region (LSC) of 88,098 bp and a small single-copy region (SSC) of 18,861 bp, separated by a pair of identical inverted repeat (IR) regions of 26,571 bp, each. The genome contains 123 genes, including 73 protein-coding genes, 8 ribosomal RNA genes, and 37 transfer RNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis of cp genome of M. longirostrata with 11 chloroplast genomes previously reported in the Magnoliaceae shows that M. longirostrata is close to Manglietia megaphylla with high bootstrap value.

In this study, the complete chloroplast genome of M. coriacea was sequenced and analyzed. The total chloroplast genome size of M. coriacea is 160,113 bp, including a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRs, 26,576 bp) separated by a large single-copy (LSC, 88,175 bp) region and a small single-copy region (SSC, 18,786 bp). The complete chloroplast genome contains 86 protein-coding (PCGs), 37 transfer RNA (tRNAs), and 8 ribosomal RNA (rRNAs) genes. The phylogenetic analysis showed that M. coriacea is closely related to M. cathcartii. This study contributes to the bioinformatics on the evolution, genetic, conservation, and molecular biology for future studies of Magnoliaceae.

Project description:As an endangered species, Magnolia kobus is distributed in Jeju island in Korea with only about 500-1000 individuals. In this study, we presented a complete chloroplast genome of M. kobus which is 159,443 bp and has four sub-regions: 87,484 bp of large single copy and 18,783 bp of small single copy regions are separated by 26,588 bp of inverted repeat regions including 113 genes (79 unique genes, four rRNAs and 30 tRNAs). Phylogenetic analysis using chloroplast genomes showed that M. kobus is a sister of M. insignis and M. laevifolia clade.

In the present paper, the complete chloroplast genome (cpDNA) and basic annotated information of L. hodgsonii were reported and its phylogenetic relationship with other species in Magnoliaceae was analyzed. The size of its complete cpDNA is 159,693 bp, with a typical quadripartite structure comprising a pair of inverted repeat (IR) regions of 26,546 bp, a large single-copy (LSC) region of 87,848 bp and a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,753 bp. The genome contains 131 unique genes, including 86 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis showed that L. hodgsonii is affinal to Lirianthe bidoupensis and they form a monophyletic group with other seven Lirianthe species. This Lirianthe clade is sister to the Dugandiodendron and Talauma clade with high support. All genera mentioned in this analysis are monophyletic under the system of Magnoliaceae by Sima and Lu.

The M. wilsonii cp genome was 157,434 bp in length, including two inverted repeat (IR) regions of 26,868 bp, a large single copy (LSC) region of 85,387 bp, and a small single copy (SSC) region of 18,311 bp. A total of 113 unique genes, including 79 protein-coding genes, 4 ribosomal RNA genes, and 30 transfer RNA genes, were annotated. The overall GC content was 38.8%. Phylogenetic analysis of 34 representative cp genomes within the genus Magnolia suggests that M. wilsonii was sister to M. sieboldii.

Twelve gene species contained one or two introns. The maximum-likelihood phylogenetic analysis revealed that M. maudiae was closely related with Manglietia insignis.
