The complete mitochondrial genome of Xanthomantis bimaculata (Mantodea: Iridopterygidae) and its phylogeny.

ABSTRACT: The mitochondrial genome sequence of Xanthomantis bimaculata (Mantodea: Iridopterygidae) from Yunnan, China is a circular molecule with the typical insect mitochondrial gene arrangement, which is 15,941 bp in length and contains 22 tRNAs, two rRNAs, 13 protein-coding genes, and one control region. The overall AT content of the mitogenome is 73.12% (A = 37.58%, T = 35.54%, C = 16.54%, G = 10.34%). In BI and ML phylogenetic analyses, X. bimaculata was a sister clade to Sceptuchus simplex. The monophyly of the families Iridopterygidae, Thespidae and Liturgusidae were supported.

The gene arrangement of mt genome of L. tonkinae was identical to the primitive mantis. The overall AT content of the mt genome was 74%. In ML and BI phylogenetic analyses, the monophyly of Leptomantellidae was robustly supported and the clade of Leptomantellidae is a sister clade to the group of (Gonypetidae+(Leptomantellidae+(Amorphoscelidae+Nanomantidae))).

The complete mitochondrial genome of Mantis religiosa (Mantodea: Mantidae) from Canada and its phylogeny.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Mantis religiosa (Mantodea: Mantidae) from Canada was successfully sequenced. The mitochondrial genome was a circular molecule of 15,521 bp in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNA genes, 23 tRNA genes (including an extra tRNAArg gene), and the control region. The AT content of the whole genome was 76.9% and the length of the control region was 636 bp with 81.9% AT content. The structure of the M. religiosa mitochondrial genome from Canada was almost identical to M. religiosa from China and their genetic distance was just 0.017. In Bayesian inference (BI) and maximum likelihood (ML) analyses, we found that M. religiosa was a sister clade to Statilia sp. and the monophyly of the genera Hierodula and Rhombodera was not supported.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Psychomantis borneensis (Mantodea: Hymenopodidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Psychomantis borneensis (Mantodea: Hymenopodidae) was successfully sequenced. The mitochondrial genome is found to be 15,493 bp long and is a circular molecule containing 37 genes (13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, and 2 rRNAs), typically found in other mantis mitochondrial genomes. The AT content of the whole genome was 72.4% and the length of the control region was 697 bp with 79.9% AT content. A phylogenetic tree was constructed based on the BI and ML analysis of 16 species of Mantodea. The results showed that P. borneensis was a sister clade to (Anaxarcha zhengi + Creobroter gemmata) (Hymenopodidae). The monophyly of the family Mantidae and the genus Theopompa, Hierodula, and Rhombodera were not supported. The outcome of this study will provide a useful data for population genetics studies as well as serve as a tool for better characterizing phylogenetic analysis of Mantodea.

The complete mitochondrial genome of a stonefly species, Suwallia bimaculata (Plecoptera: Chloroperlidae).

Project description:The stonefly Suwallia bimaculata belongs to the Chloroperlidae. The mitogenome of S. bimaculata was sequenced and annotated, the new representative of the complete mitogenome of the genus Suwallia. The entire genome of S. bimaculata is 16,125?bp totally with an A?+?T content of 68.5%, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNAs, 22 transfer RNAs, and a 1,210?bp control region. All genes have the similar locations and strands with that of other published species of Plecoptera. Most PCGs use typical start/stop codon, whereas ND5 use GTG as start codon. And, COII and ND5 stopped with incomplete terminaton signal T. Phylogenetic analysis was performed using the Bayesian (BI) method and Maximum-likelihood (ML) methods based on 13 protein-coding genes and two ribosomal RNAs showed that S. bimaculata was the sister group to Suwallia teleckojensis and the clade Suwallia was closely to four perlodid species. More chloroperlid data was needed for further study of phylogeny in Chloroperlidae.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of the Statilia maculate has been amplified and sequenced in this study. The mitogenome was 15,775bp long with two ribosomal RNA genes, 26 transfer RNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes, and a non-coding control region, with an A?+?T-rich characteristic (75.8%). Five identical tandem duplication of trnR were found in mitogenome of S. maculate, similar to the other mantis. According to the phylogenetic analysis, S. maculate had a closer genetic relationship with Statilia sp.

Characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Charybdis bimaculata and phylogenetic analysis.

Project description:In this study, the complete mitogenome of Charybdis bimaculata was sequenced and annotated. The mitogenome is 15,441?bp in length, containing 37 classical eukaryotic mitochondrial regions (13 typical protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes) and a non-coding control region. Most of the genes are initiated with ATA, ATG, and ATT, though GTG is also used as an initiation codon. Twelve PCGs stop with complete termination codon TAA and TAG, while Cob uses incomplete codon (T-). The phylogenetic relationships based on 13 PCGs show that C. bimaculata clusters closest to C. fariata and C. natator.

The complete mitochondrial genome of the North American caddisfly Anabolia bimaculata (Insecta: Trichoptera: Limnephilidae).

Project description:The caddisfly Anabolia bimaculata, is a rapidly-maturing caddisfly found in temporary ponds across western North America. Whole genome Illumina sequencing facilitated the assembly of a complete circular mitochondrial genome of 15,048?bp from A. bimaculata consisting of 78.2% AT nucleotides, 22 tRNAs, 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNAs and a control region arranged in the canonical and ancestral gene order found in insects. This gene order is consistent with the gene order found in most other caddisfly species. Maximum likelihood phylogenetic reconstruction places A. bimaculata within a monophyletic Order Trichoptera and sister to the primitive lepidopteran Micropterix calthella (Micropterigidae).

Characterization of complete mitochondrial genome of two-spot swimming crab Charybdis bimaculata (Miers, 1886).

Project description:The two-spot swimming crab Charybdis bimaculata (Miers, 1886) is an important decapod species in the benthic ecosystem of Korean waters. In this study, we determined its complete mitochondrial genome by the combination of NGS analysis using MiSeq platform and PCR-based cloning method. The circular mitochondrial genome of C. bimaculata was 15,714 bp in length in which the standard set of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, and 2 rRNA genes were encoded. Phylogenic analysis showed that C.bimaculata is most closely related to Charybdis feriata. The complete mitogenome sequence information of C. bimaculata would provide useful data for the conservation of their population in the Pacific ocean.

The circular molecule is 15388?bp in length (GenBank accession no. MN267041), containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes. The nucleotide composition is asymmetric (39.0% A, 15.8% C, 9.8% G, 35.4% T), with an overall A?+?T content of 74.4%. The gene arrangement of M. quinquespinosa is identical to that observed in other Mantidae family praying mantises. Ten reading frame overlaps and seven intergenic regions are found in the mitogenome of M. quinquespinosa. The phylogenetic relationships based on 13 PCGs show that M. quinquespinosa clusters closest to the species of Mantidae.
