The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Chrysanthemum boreale (Asteraceae).

ABSTRACT: Chrysanthemum is an important ornamental, herbal, and medicinal plant. We report the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) sequence of Chrysanthemum boreale. The mitogenome is 211,002?bp in length, has a GC content of 45.36%, and contains 58 genes, including 35 protein-coding genes, three ribosomal RNA genes, and 20 transfer RNA genes. A phylogenetic analysis based on mitogenome protein sequences from various plants confirmed that C. boreale belongs to the Asteraceae family. This mitogenome will be useful in evolutionary and phylogenetic studies of Chrysanthemum and Asteraceae.

Project description:The complete plastid genome of Chrysanthemum morifolium 'Orizaba', a cultivar from Holland, was determined and analyzed in this work. It is a circular chromosome and has a length of 151,060 bp. The LSC and SSC of 82,858 bp and 18,294 bp were separated by two IRs of 24,954 bp. The chloroplast genome of C. morifolium 'Orizaba' contains 125 genes, including 83 protein-coding genes, eight ribosomal RNA genes, and 34 transfer RNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that C. morifolium 'Orizaba' clustered together with other Chrysanthemum varieties in the family Asteraceae. The plastome is useful for the elucidation of phylogenetics and evolution in the Asteraceae and Chrysanthemum varieties.

Project description:Chrysanthemum boreale is a perennial plant in the Asteraceae family that is native to eastern Asia and has both ornamental and herbal uses. Here, we determined the complete chloroplast genome sequence for C. boreale using long-read sequencing. The chloroplast genome was 151,012?bp and consisted of a large single copy (LSC) region (82,817?bp), a small single copy (SSC) region (18,281?bp) and two inverted repeats (IRs) (24,957?bp). It was predicted to contain 131 genes, including 87 protein-coding genes, eight rRNAs and 46 tRNAs. Phylogenetic analysis of chloroplast genomes clustered C. boreale with other Chrysanthemum and Asteraceae species.

Project description:Sphagneticola trilobata is one of the world's worst invasive alien species. The paucity of genetic information for this species has made it difficult for studies on the underlying genetic mechanism of its invasiveness. Herein, we report the de novo chloroplast genome assembly of S. trilobata using Illumina whole-genome sequencing data. The chloroplast genome was 151,939?bp in length, with a large single copy (LSC) region of 83,405?bp, a small single copy (SSC) region of 18,448?bp, separated by two inverted repeat (IR) regions of 25,044?bp each. A total of 134 genes were annotated for the chloroplast genome assembly, including 86 protein-encoding genes. Phylogenetic analysis suggested close relationship between S. trilobata and Eclipta prostrata.

Project description:The complete chloroplast (cp) genome of Neopallasia pectinata was sequenced and analyzed in this study. It was 150,766 bp in length and has a typical circular structure, including a large single copy (LSC) with 82,605 bp, two inverted repeats (IRs) with 24,944 bp, and a small single copy (SSC) with 18,273 bp. The phylogenetic analysis of N. pectinata and its related taxa was conducted depended on the complete cp-genome sequences. The maximum likelihood tree indicates a close relationship between Chrysanthemum and Neopallasia. The cp-genome of N. pectinata is useful for future phylogenetic studies of Asteraceae.

The genome contained 80 protein-coding genes, 4 rRNA genes and 30 tRNA genes. Phylogenetic tree revealed that A. fukudo was closely located in other Artemisia species, Artemisia montana and Artemisia frigida.

Project description:Tussilago farfara is a member of the family Asteraceae. In this paper, we reported the complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of T. farfara. The results showed that T. farfara complete chloroplast genome comprises 151,325 bp, containing a largen single copy (LSC) region of 83,370 bp, a small single copy (SSC) region of 18,273 bp, and a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) region of 24,841 bp. The genome has a GC content of 37.4%. The LSC, SSC, and IR regions represent 35.5%, 30.6%, and 43.0% of the T. farfara chloroplast genome length. We annotated 132 genes, comprising 87 protein-coding genes (PCGs), eight rRNA genes, and 36 tRNA genes. A phylogenetic analysis based on 31 cpDNA genomes suggested that the T. farfara is closely related to Farfugium japonicum.

With the spread of a congeneric invasive species Sphagneticola trilobata in South China, the already vulnerable S. calendulacea populations are being threatened further by natural hybridization with the invading species. In this study, we assembled and characterized the complete chloroplast genome of S. calendulacea as a resource for future studies on this species. The chloroplast genome was 151,748?bp in size, with a large single-copy (LSC) region of 83,270?bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,348?bp, separated by two inverted repeat (IR) regions of 25,065?bp each. Project description:We characterized the complete chloroplast genome sequence of Ligularia fischeri, a collection from Halla Mountain in Jeju Island, Korea. The plants are utilized as edible functional plant species harbouring useful antioxidant compounds in family Asteraceae. De novo assembly with whole genome sequencing data of L. fischeri completed the chloroplast genome of 151 133 bp long, which included two inverted repeats (IRs) blocks of 24 831 bp, separated by the large single-copy block of 83 238 bp and small single-copy block of 18 233 bp. The genome encoded 113 genes consisting of 80 protein-coding genes, 29 tRNA genes and 4 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis with protein coding gene sequences of reported Asteraceae chloroplast genomes revealed a close relationship of L. fischeri with Jacobaea vulgaris, a weed species world-widely distributed.
