Complete mitochondrial genome of Atergatis integerrimus (Decapoda, Xanthidae) from the Philippines.

ABSTRACT: In this study, a complete mitochondrial genome from the red egg crab, Atergatis integerrimus was sequenced and analyzed. The mitochondrial genome length is 16,333 bp and is composed of 13 protein-coding, two ribosomal RNA and 22 tRNA genes. The structure and gene orientation of the mitochondrial genome was found to be identical with the other brachyurans. The position of A. intergerrimus in the superfamily Xanthoidea was determined based on the mitochondrial protein-coding genes. The result of the phylogenetic relationship study showed that A. integerrimus was closest to Leptodius sanguineus.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome sequenced from a xanthid crab, Leptodius sanguineus which was collected from a rocky intertidal area in Chuuk lagoon. The mitochondrial genome size of L. sanguineus evaluated as 15,480 bp with 33.6% A, 24% C, 11.2% G and 31.2% T and mitochondrial gene order of L. sanguineus is typical to brachyuran species. Phylogenetic analysis shows that the family Xanthidae has sister group relationship with a lineage including the families Portunidae and Menippidae in the subsection Heterotremata. This is the first report for the complete mitochondrial genome from the xanthid crabs.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Penaeus semisulcatus (Decapoda: Penaeidae).

Project description:The green tiger prawn, Penaeus semisulcatus, is one of the economically important penaeid shrimp due to its larger body size compared with other shrimps in Penaeidae family. However, the taxonomic revision studies of Penaeidae have been one of the most controversial issues in recent years. Moreover, there are at least two morphotypes of the green tiger prawn, one with banded antenna, another with non-banded antenna. In this study, we report the complete mitochondrial genome of P. semisulcatus. The mitogenome has 16,002 base pairs (68.6% A?+?T content) and made up of total of 37 genes (13 protein-coding, 22 transfer RNAs and 2 ribosomal RNAs), and a control region. This study adds one more available complete mitogenomes of Penaeus and will provide useful genetic information for future evolutionary and taxonomic classification of Penaeidae.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Scylla paramamosain (Decapoda: Portunidae).

Project description:The mud crab Scylla paramamosain (Decapoda:Portunidae) is a commercially important crustacean species in China, which is broadly distributed along the southeastern coastal regions of China. In previous studies, the population from Beibu Bay showed distinct genetic lineage. Here, we report the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of S. paramamosain from Beibu Bay. The mitogenome has 15,816 base pairs and made up of total of 37 genes (13 protein-coding, 22 transfer RNAs and 2 ribosomal RNAs), and a putative control region. The complete mitogenome in the Beibu Bay population was shorter than that in the Shenzhen population, because the non-coding region between tRNA-Glu and tRNA-His was shorter in the former, and there were 59 mutations sites between these two populations. This study adds a distinct mitogenomes of S. paramamosain and will provide useful genetic information for future genetic variation identification and genetic diversity evaluation of this economic valuable crab.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Thor amboinensis (Hippolytidae, Decapoda).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Thor amboinensis was obtained and described in this study. This complete mitochondrial genome is 15,553 bp in length and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and 22 transfer RNA genes. Twenty-two genes were encoded by the heavy strand. The overall base composition of the heavy-strand was 36.09% A, 12.36% G, 14.54% C, and 37.01% T, with a high G + C content of 26.90%. The phylogenetic analysis suggested that T. amboinensis was closest to Lebbeus groenlandicus. The newly described mitochondrial genome may provide valuable data for phylogenetic analysis for Hippolytidae.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Hymenocera picta (Malacostraca: Decapoda: Hymenoceridae).

Project description:In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of the Hymenocera picta is reported for the first time. The length of genome is 15,786?bp, including 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and 21 transfer RNA genes. Nucleotide composition of the whole mitogenome was 37.26% A, 28.42% T, 21.92% C, and 12.40% G. The AT and GC skewness of mitogenome sequence was 0.135 and 0.277, respectively. The reconstructed phylogenetic relationships of 22 Decapoda species based on 13 protein-coding genes were highly supported and the clade of all Palaemonoidea shrimps included had a high support value. Our results shall provide a better understanding in the evolutionary histories of the Decapoda.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Chionoecetes japonicus (Crustacea: Decapoda: Majoidea).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Chionoecetes japonicus was sequenced using a specimen collected offshore in the East Sea. The genome includes 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and a control region (D-loop), with a total length of 16,060 bp. The overall nucleotide composition was 34.91% A, 17.29% C, 10.93% G, and 36.87% T, with 71.78% A + T. In the phylogenetic tree was constructed using maximum-likelihood and Bayesian inference analyses, C. japonicus and C. japonicus pacificus formed a genetic clade that was sister to C. opilio.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Belzebub intermedius (Decapoda, Dendrobranchiata, Luciferidae).

Project description:We determined the mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) sequence of Belzebub intermedius (Hansen, 1919). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first complete mitogenome in the family Luciferidae. The complete mitogenome of B. intermedius is 16,001 bp in length, with 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), two ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), and a control region (CR). The gene arrangement of B. intermedius is almost identical to that of the same sergestoid species, Acetes chinensis Hansen, 1919, except that there is no additional trnS1. A maximum-likelihood tree, constructed using 18 decapod mitogenomes, confirmed that B. intermedius occupied the most basal position within the suborder Dendrobranchiata.
