Chronic inflammation during many diseases is associated with bone loss. While interferons (IFNs) are often inhibitory to osteoclast formation, the complex role that IFN and interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) play in osteoimmunology during inflammatory diseases is still poorly understood.
