Amino-Supported Palladium Catalyst for Chemo- and Stereoselective Domino Reactions.

ABSTRACT: A solid amino-supported palladium catalyst is used in an oxidative domino reaction for the diastereoselective construction of alkyne-substituted cyclopentenol compounds. This heterogeneous catalyst exhibits high efficiency and excellent chemoselectivity, as well as good recyclability. The chemoselectivity of the domino reactions was readily controlled by switching the solvent and catalyst. Asymmetric syntheses and an oxidative carbocyclization-borylation reaction have also been developed based on the heterogeneous palladium catalyst.

Project description:The metal accumulating ability of plants has previously been used to capture metal contaminants from the environment; however, the full potential of this process is yet to be realized. Herein, the first use of living plants to recover palladium and produce catalytically active palladium nanoparticles is reported. This process eliminates the necessity for nanoparticle extraction from the plant and reduces the number of production steps compared to traditional catalyst palladium on carbon. These heterogeneous plant catalysts have demonstrated high catalytic activity in Suzuki coupling reactions between phenylboronic acid and a range of aryl halides containing iodo-, bromo- and chloro- moieties.

Palladium nanoparticles on a pyridinium supported ionic liquid phase: a recyclable and low-leaching palladium catalyst for aminocarbonylation reactions.

Project description:A new SILP (Supported Ionic Liquid Phase) palladium catalyst was prepared and characterized by 13C and 29Si CP MAS NMR, DTG, FTIR and TEM. The presence of the grafted pyridinium cations on the surface of the support was found to result in the formation of highly dispersed Pd nanoparticles with their diameter in the range of 1-2 nm. The catalyst was proved to be active not only in the aminocarbonylation of some model compounds but also in the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients. Catalyst recycling and palladium leaching studies were carried out for the first time in aminocarbonylations leading to CX-546(1-(1,4-benzodioxan-6-ylcarbonyl)piperidine), Moclobemide, Nikethamide and a precursor of Finasteride. The latter reaction proves that not only aryl iodides but also an iodoalkene can be converted into the products with the help of the heterogeneous catalyst. The results show that the conditions should be always fine-tuned in the reactions of different substrates to achieve optimal results. Palladium loss was also observed to depend considerably on the nature of the reaction partners.

Project description:A diphenylphosphinite cellulose palladium complex (Cell-OPPh(2)-Pd(0)) was found to be a highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction. The products were obtained in good to excellent yield under mild reaction conditions. Moreover, the catalyst could be easily recovered by simple filtration and reused for at least 6 cycles without losing its activity.

Multicomponent versus domino reactions: One-pot free-radical synthesis of ?-amino-ethers and ?-amino-alcohols.

Project description:Following an optimized multicomponent procedure, an aryl amine, a ketone, and a cyclic ether or an alcohol molecule are assembled in a one-pot synthesis by nucleophilic radical addition of ketyl radicals to ketimines generated in situ. The reaction occurs under mild conditions by mediation of the TiCl4/Zn/t-BuOOH system, leading to the formation of quaternary ?-amino-ethers and -alcohols. The new reaction conditions guarantee good selectivity by preventing the formation of secondary products. The secondary products are possibly derived from a competitive domino reaction, which involves further oxidation of the ketyl radicals.

Ultrathin Nanosheet of Graphdiyne-Supported Palladium Atom Catalyst for Efficient Hydrogen Production.

Project description:Atomic catalysts are promising alternatives to bulk catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), because of their high atomic efficiencies, catalytic activities, and selectivities. Here, we report the ultrathin nanosheet of graphdiyne (GDY)-supported zero-valent palladium atoms and its direct application as a three-dimensional flexible hydrogen-evolving cathode. Our theoretical and experimental findings verified the successful anchoring of Pd0 to GDY and the excellent catalytic performance of Pd0/GDY. At a very low mass loading (0.2%: 1/100 of the 20 wt % Pt/C), Pd0/GDY required only 55 mV to reach 10 mA cm-2 (smaller than 20 wt % Pt/C); it showed larger mass activity (61.5 A mgmetal-1) and turnover frequency (16.7 s-1) than 20 wt % Pt/C and long-term stability during 72 hr of continuous electrolysis. The unusual electrocatalytic properties of Pd0/GDY originate from its unique and precise structure and valence state, resulting in reliable performance as an HER catalyst.

Palladium nanoparticles as efficient catalyst for C-S bond formation reactions.

Project description:The development of green, economical and sustainable chemical processes is one of the primary challenges in organic synthesis. Herein, we report an efficient and heterogeneous palladium-catalyzed sulfonylation of vinyl cyclic carbonates with sodium sulfinates via decarboxylative cross-coupling. Both aliphatic and aromatic sulfinate salts react with various vinyl cyclic carbonates to deliver the desired allylic sulfones featuring tri- and even tetrasubstituted olefin scaffolds in high yields with excellent selectivity. The process needs only 2 mol% of Pd2(dba)3 and the in situ formed palladium nano-particles are found to be the active catalyst.

Halogen-Bridged Methylnaphthyl Palladium Dimers as Versatile Catalyst Precursors in Coupling Reactions.

Project description:Halogen-bridged methylnaphthyl (MeNAP) palladium dimers are presented as multipurpose Pd-precursors, ideally suited for catalytic method development and preparative organic synthesis. By simply mixing with phosphine or carbene ligands, they are in situ converted into well-defined monoligated complexes. Their catalytic performance was benchmarked against state-of-the-art systems in challenging Buchwald-Hartwig, Heck, Suzuki and Negishi couplings, and ketone arylations. Their use enabled record-setting activities, beyond those achievable by optimization of the ligand alone. The MeNAP catalysts permit syntheses of tetra-ortho-substituted arenes and bulky anilines in near-quantitative yields at room temperature, allow mono-arylations of small ketones, and enable so far elusive cross-couplings of secondary alkyl boronic acids with aryl chlorides.

This heterogeneous process exhibits high efficiency and good recyclability, and was utilized for the one-pot construction of polycyclic compounds with multiple chiral centers. AgOTf was used to remove chloride ions in the heterogeneous catalyst Pd-AmP-CNC, thereby generating highly active PdII , which results in high efficiency of the heterogeneous catalytic system.

Characterization data of palladium-alumina on activated biochar catalyst for hydrogenolysis reactions.

Project description:This article presents experimental data on the techniques used for the characterization of Pd-Al2O3 supported on activated biochar (2Pd-5Al/ABC) catalyst. The reported data is collected as a part of the research on the 2Pd-5Al/ABC catalyst used for lignin hydrogenolysis [1]. The data on X-ray powder diffraction, ammonia-temperature programmed desorption, pyridine diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy, and high-resolution scanning electron microscopy of various catalysts are valuable to study the changes in surface morphology and acidity upon metal loading. The data from thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy are also provided to understand the thermal stability, ionic state of various metals and elemental composition of the catalyst, respectively. The data provided can be used for developing novel catalysts from renewable biochar, and the characterization of noble metal-metal oxide loaded catalysts can aid researchers to design composite catalytic materials for various applications.
