Dataset of service life data for 100 building elements and technical systems including their descriptive statistics and fitting to lognormal distribution.

ABSTRACT: This article presents the descriptive statistics of service life data of building elements, gathered through an international, European and Swiss literature review of LCA, LCC and other sources called "Real-Estate Management sources" that include building owners, banks, insurances, associations of tenants and owners, etc. Furthermore, the properties of the fitted lognormal distribution are given. The data are structured, using a hybrid decomposition (functional decomposition, according to the eBKP-H - SN506511 and material decomposition, as well). These data and the derived statistical distributions were used in a research study, in order to quantify the uncertainty and sensitivity of the LCA and LCC output, due to the variability of the building elements' service lives.

Building of an Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) Gene Dataset to Support the Italian Health Service in Mushroom Identification.

Project description:This study aims at building an ITS gene dataset to support the Italian Health Service in mushroom identification. The target species were selected among those mostly involved in regional (Tuscany) poisoning cases. For each target species, all the ITS sequences already deposited in GenBank and BOLD databases were retrieved and accurately assessed for quality and reliability by a systematic filtering process. Wild specimens of target species were also collected to produce reference ITS sequences. These were used partly to set up and partly to validate the dataset by BLAST analysis. Overall, 7270 sequences were found in the two databases. After filtering, 1293 sequences (17.8%) were discarded, with a final retrieval of 5977 sequences. Ninety-seven ITS reference sequences were obtained from 76 collected mushroom specimens: 15 of them, obtained from 10 species with no sequences available after the filtering, were used to build the dataset, with a final taxonomic coverage of 96.7%. The other 82 sequences (66 species) were used for the dataset validation. In most of the cases (n = 71; 86.6%) they matched with identity values ≥ 97-100% with the corresponding species. The dataset was able to identify the species involved in regional poisoning incidents. As some of these species are also involved in poisonings at the national level, the dataset may be used for supporting the National Health Service throughout the Italian territory. Moreover, it can support the official control activities aimed at detecting frauds in commercial mushroom-based products and safeguarding consumers.

A synthetic building operation dataset.

Project description:This paper presents a synthetic building operation dataset which includes HVAC, lighting, miscellaneous electric loads (MELs) system operating conditions, occupant counts, environmental parameters, end-use and whole-building energy consumptions at 10-minute intervals. The data is created with 1395 annual simulations using the U.S. DOE detailed medium-sized reference office building, and 30 years' historical weather data in three typical climates including Miami, San Francisco, and Chicago. Three energy efficiency levels of the building and systems are considered. Assumptions regarding occupant movements, occupants' diverse temperature preferences, lighting, and MELs are adopted to reflect realistic building operations. A semantic building metadata schema - BRICK, is used to store the building metadata. The dataset is saved in a 1.2 TB of compressed HDF5 file. This dataset can be used in various applications, including building energy and load shape benchmarking, energy model calibration, evaluation of occupant and weather variability and their influences on building performance, algorithm development and testing for thermal and energy load prediction, model predictive control, policy development for reinforcement learning based building controls.

Spatio-temporal dataset of building occupants.

Project description:The paper presents spatio-temporal dataset of building occupants captured using 200 Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons installed on different locations in two buildings. It contains 8426 data points of 11 building occupants collected with a sampling rate of 5 seconds during different times in a 12 days' interval. Each spatio-temporal data point comprises location and time components correspond to a building location which can be visualized using an OpenStreetMap (OSM) file of a building.

Building a biomedical ontology recommender web service.

Project description:BackgroundResearchers in biomedical informatics use ontologies and terminologies to annotate their data in order to facilitate data integration and translational discoveries. As the use of ontologies for annotation of biomedical datasets has risen, a common challenge is to identify ontologies that are best suited to annotating specific datasets. The number and variety of biomedical ontologies is large, and it is cumbersome for a researcher to figure out which ontology to use.MethodsWe present the Biomedical Ontology Recommender web service. The system uses textual metadata or a set of keywords describing a domain of interest and suggests appropriate ontologies for annotating or representing the data. The service makes a decision based on three criteria. The first one is coverage, or the ontologies that provide most terms covering the input text. The second is connectivity, or the ontologies that are most often mapped to by other ontologies. The final criterion is size, or the number of concepts in the ontologies. The service scores the ontologies as a function of scores of the annotations created using the National Center for Biomedical Ontology (NCBO) Annotator web service. We used all the ontologies from the UMLS Metathesaurus and the NCBO BioPortal.ResultsWe compare and contrast our Recommender by an exhaustive functional comparison to previously published efforts. We evaluate and discuss the results of several recommendation heuristics in the context of three real world use cases. The best recommendations heuristics, rated 'very relevant' by expert evaluators, are the ones based on coverage and connectivity criteria. The Recommender service (alpha version) is available to the community and is embedded into BioPortal.

Natural Building Materials for Interior Fitting and Refurbishment-What about Indoor Emissions?

Project description:Indoor air quality can be adversely affected by emissions from building materials, consequently having a negative impact on human health and well-being. In this study, more than 30 natural building materials (earth dry boards and plasters, bio-based insulation materials, and boards made of wood, flax, reed, straw, etc.) used for interior works were investigated as to their emissions of (semi-)volatile organic compounds ((S)VOC), formaldehyde, and radon. The study focused on the emissions from complete wall build-ups as they can be used for internal partition walls and the internal insulation of external walls. Test chambers were designed, allowing the compounds to release only from the surface of the material facing indoors under testing parameters that were chosen to simulate model room conditions. The emission test results were evaluated using the AgBB evaluation scheme, a procedure for the health-related evaluation of construction products and currently applied for the approval of specific groups of building materials in Germany. Seventeen out of 19 sample build-ups tested in this study would have passed this scheme since they generally proved to be low-emitting and although the combined emissions of multiple materials were tested, 50% of the measurements could be terminated before half of the total testing time.

Descriptive statistics of dataset from the meta-analysis and meta-regression analysis on prognostic significance of pre-treatment systemic hemato-immunological indices of cervical cancer patients.

Project description:In this study, we perform a meta-analysis and meta-regression analysis for the article entitled "Prognostic value of systemic hemato-immunological indices in uterine cervical cancer: A systemic review, meta-analysis, and meta-regression of observational studies." [1] We implemented quantitative meta-analyses and time series meta-regression analysis to determine whether systemic hemato-immunological indices, such as neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), thrombocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (TLR), and C-reactive protein/albumin ratio (CAR) are associated with an increased risk of cervical collision cancer. In all, 9558 patients from 22 studies were included after a systematic data search, performed comprehensively using the following databases: MEDLINE, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane. The meta-analysis was conducted with a random-effects model using the Review Manager software (Revman version 5.3). The overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), and progression-free survival (PFS) data were compared among each observational study. All data are expressed as hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs), and were calculated using the generic inverse of variance method. Statistical heterogeneity was quantified using Cochrane's Q statistic and Higgins I2 statistic. Subgroup analysis was performed to investigate the sources of heterogeneity. Furthermore, quality assessment of the included datasets was presented according to the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale method. Additionally, sensitivity analysis was conducted to explore the sources of heterogeneity and analyze whether the results were stable and reliable. Meta-analysis random-effect approach was used for the regression to evaluate the effect of age, presence of squamous cell carcinoma patients, and number of evaluated NLR and PLR parameters on patient survival.
