Infections caused by extended-spectrum-β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli are a significant cause of morbidity and health care costs. Globally, the prevailing clonal type is ST131 in association with the <i>bla</i><sub>CTX-M-15</sub> β-lactamase gene.
