The transpeptidase sortase A of Staphylococcus aureus (Sa-SrtA) is a valuable tool in protein chemistry. The native enzyme anchors surface proteins containing a highly conserved LPxTG sorting motif to a terminal glycine residue of the peptidoglycan layer in Gram-positive bacteria.
