Project description:The SF5Cl radical addition on unsaturated compounds was performed using an air-stable amine-borane complex as the radical initiator. This method showed to be complementary to the classic Et3B-mediated SF5Cl addition on alkenes and alkynes. A total of seven alkene and three alkyne derivatives were tested in the reaction, with yields ranging from 3% to 85%.

Project description:We have developed a photochemical ATRA/ATRC reaction that is mediated by halogen bonding interactions. This reaction is caused by the reaction of malonic acid ester derivatives containing bromine or iodine with unsaturated compounds such as alkenes and alkynes in the presence of diisopropylethylamine under visible light irradiation. As a result of various control experiments, it was found that the formation of complexes between amines and halogens by halogen-bonding interaction occurs in the reaction system, followed by the cleavage of the carbon-halogen bonds by visible light, resulting in the formation of carbon radicals. In this reaction, a variety of substrates can be used, and the products, cyclopentenes and cyclopentanes, were obtained by intermolecular addition and intramolecular cyclization.

Project description:Readily available cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylcarbonyl chloride derivatives are introduced as bench-stable HCl surrogates for transfer hydrochlorination of terminal and internal alkenes as well as selected alkynes. The stepwise Grob fragmentation of those acyl chlorides into chloride, carbon monoxide, a low-molecular-weight arene, and a proton is promoted by B(C6 F5 )3 . This decarbonylative transfer process enables the addition of HCl across C-C double and triple bonds with Markovnikov selectivity at room temperature.

Project description:Two-component Giese type radical additions are highly practical and established reactions. Herein, three-component radical conjugate additions of unactivated alkenes to Michael acceptors are reported. Amidyl radicals, oxidatively generated from ?-amido oxy acids using redox catalysis, act as the third reaction component which add to the unactivated alkenes. The adduct radicals engage in Giese type additions to Michael acceptors to provide, after reduction, the three-component products in an overall alkene carboamination reaction. Transformations which can be conducted under practical mild conditions feature high functional group tolerance and broad substrate scope.

Project description:Hydroamination of alkenes, the addition of the N-H bond of an amine across an alkene, is a fundamental, yet challenging, organic transformation that creates an alkylamine from two abundant chemical feedstocks, alkenes and amines, with full atom economy1-3. The reaction is particularly important because amines, especially chiral amines, are prevalent substructures in a wide range of natural products and drugs. Although extensive efforts have been dedicated to developing catalysts for hydroamination, the vast majority of alkenes that undergo intermolecular hydroamination have been limited to conjugated, strained, or terminal alkenes2-4; only a few examples occur by the direct addition of the N-H bond of amines across unactivated internal alkenes5-7, including photocatalytic hydroamination8,9, and no asymmetric intermolecular additions to such alkenes are known. In fact, current examples of direct, enantioselective intermolecular hydroamination of any type of unactivated alkene lacking a directing group occur with only moderate enantioselectivity10-13. Here we report a cationic iridium system that catalyses intermolecular hydroamination of a range of unactivated, internal alkenes, including those in both acyclic and cyclic alkenes, to afford chiral amines with high enantioselectivity. The catalyst contains a phosphine ligand bearing trimethylsilyl-substituted aryl groups and a triflimide counteranion, and the reaction design includes 2-amino-6-methylpyridine as the amine to enhance the rates of multiple steps within the catalytic cycle while serving as an ammonia surrogate. These design principles point the way to the addition of N-H bonds of other reagents, as well as O-H and C-H bonds, across unactivated internal alkenes to streamline the synthesis of functional molecules from basic feedstocks.

Project description:The formation of carbon-carbon bonds via the intermolecular addition of alkyl radicals to alkenes is a cornerstone of organic chemistry and plays a central role in synthesis. However, unless specific electrophilic radicals are involved, polarity matching requirements restrict the alkene component to be electron deficient. This limits the scope of a fundamentally important carbon-carbon bond forming process that could otherwise be more universally applied. Herein, we introduce a polarity transduction strategy that formally overcomes this electronic limitation. Vinyl sulfonium ions are demonstrated to react with carbon-centered radicals, giving adducts that undergo in situ or sequential nucleophilic displacement to provide products that would be inaccessible via traditional methods. The broad generality of this strategy is demonstrated through the derivatization of unmodified complex bioactive molecules.

Project description:A transition metal-free process has been reported for 1,2-dithiocyanation of alkynes in the presence of sodium persulfate and potassium thiocyanate reagent combination in a short reaction time under ambient air. Styrene derivatives are equally applicable under the same reaction conditions. Monothiocyanated vinyl derivatives were also synthesized from 2-ethynylpyridine and dimethyl acetylene dicarboxylate. The reaction proceeds by the radical/polar pathway as evidenced from our experiments and literature. After removal of the solvent from the reaction mixture by evaporation, the crude product was purified without conventional workup.

Project description:The Lewis acidities of a series of [n]magnesocenophanes (1 a-d) have been investigated computationally and found to be a function of the tilt of the cyclopentadienyl moieties. Their catalytic abilities in amine borane dehydrogenation/dehydrocoupling reactions have been probed, and C[1]magnesocenophane (1 a) has been shown to effectively catalyze the dehydrogenation/dehydrocoupling of dimethylamine borane (2 a) and diisopropylamine borane (2 b) under ambient conditions. Furthermore, the mechanism of the reaction with 2 a has been investigated experimentally and computationally, and the results imply a ligand-assisted mechanism involving stepwise proton and hydride transfer, with dimethylaminoborane as the key intermediate.

Project description:Many of the radical-molecule reactions are nonelementary reactions with negative activation energies, which usually proceed through two steps. They exist extensively in the atmospheric chemistry and hydrocarbon fuel combustion, so they are extensively studied both theoretically and experimentally. At the same time, various models, such as a two transition state model, a steady-state model, an equilibrium-state model, and a direct elementary dynamics model are proposed to get the kinetic parameters for the overall reaction. In this paper, a conversion temperature T C1 is defined as the temperature at which the standard molar Gibbs free energy change of the formation of the reaction complex is equal to zero, and it is found that when T ? T C1, the direct elementary dynamics model with an inclusion of the tunneling correction of the second step reaction is applicable to calculate the overall reaction rate constants for this kind of reaction system. The reaction class of hydroxyl radical addition to alkenes is chosen as the objects of this study, five reactions are chosen as the representative for the reaction class, and their single-point energies are calculated using the method of CCSD(T)/CBS, and it is shown that the highest conversion temperature for the five reactions is 139.89 K, far below the usual initial low-temperature (550 K) oxidation chemistry of hydrocarbon fuels; therefore, the steady-state approximation method is applicable. All geometry optimizations are performed at the BH&HLYP/6-311+G(d,p) level, and the result shows that the geometric parameters in the reaction centers are conserved; hence, the isodesmic reaction method is applicable to this reaction class. To validate the accuracy of this scheme, a comparison of electronic energy difference at the BH&HLYP/6-311+G(d,p) level and the corrected electronic energy difference with the electronic energy difference at the CCSD(T)/CBS level is performed for the five representative reactions, and it is shown that the maximum absolute deviation of electronic energy difference can be reduced from 2.54 kcal·mol-1 before correction to 0.58 kcal·mol-1 after correction, indicating that the isodesmic reaction method is applicable for the accurate calculation of the kinetic parameters for large-size molecular systems with a negative activation energy reaction. The overall rate constants for 44 reactions of the reaction class of hydroxyl radical addition to alkenes are calculated using the transition-state theory in combination with the isodesmic correction scheme, and high-pressure limit rate rules for the reaction class are developed. In addition, the thermodynamic parameter is calculated and the results indicate that our dynamics model is applicable for our studied reaction class. A chemical kinetic modeling and sensitivity analysis using the calculated kinetic data is performed for the combustion of ethene, and the results indicate the studied reaction is important for the low-to-medium temperature combustion modeling of ethene.
