Four new species of the spider genus Synagelides Strand, 1906 from South China (Araneae, Salticidae).

ABSTRACT: Four new species of the jumping spider genus Synagelides Strand, 1906 from Guizhou and Yunnan, China are described: Synagelidesangustus sp. nov. (♀), S.latus sp. nov. (♂♀), S.subagoriformis sp. nov. (♂♀), and S.triangulus sp. nov. (♀). Photographs of the habitus and copulatory organs and a distributional map are provided.

Project description:We diagnose and describe four new species of Portia Karsch, 1878 and describe for the first time the male of P.zhaoi Peng, Li & Chen, 2003 from China based on morphological characters. The females of Portiabawang sp. nov. have the narrowest epigyne orifice. The males of Portiaerlangping sp. nov. have the shortest embolus among all the species. The females of Portiafajing sp. nov. can be distinguished from other species by the anterior orifice margin, which is nearly parallel to the posterior orifice margin. The males of Portiaxishan sp. nov. can be identified by the tegular furrow which extends to form a membrane and by the tegular apophysis which is obscured; the females of Portiaxishan sp. nov. can be diagnosed by the slit-like epigynal orifice. The males of P.zhaoi have the longest embolus among all the species, and females can be diagnosed by the circular epigyne orifice and the longest copulatory ducts. To facilitate future identification, we also provide the GenBank accession codes of the DNA barcode gene, Cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI), for all the type specimens.

Project description:Five new species of Phintella are described from the Wuling Mountains, China: Phintellaarcuata sp. n. (male and female), Phintellalevii sp. n. (female), Phintellapanda sp. n. (female), Phintellapulcherrima sp. n. (male and female), and Phintellawulingensis sp. n. (female). Distribution data, detailed morphological characteristics, and illustrations of body and genital organs are presented.

Four new species of the trapdoor spider genus Conothele Thorell, 1878 (Araneae, Halonoproctidae) from China.

Project description:Herein four species of the trapdoor spider genus Conothele Thorell, 1878 collected from China are described as new to science based on the female genital morphology: C.baisha sp. n. (Hainan Province), C.baoting sp. n. (Hainan Province), C.linzhi sp. n. (Tibet), and C.jinggangshan sp. n. (Jiangxi Province). For two Hainan species, C.baisha sp. n. and C.baoting sp. n., between which it is difficult to distinguish solely based on female genital morphology, additional diagnoses derived from species-specific nucleotide substitution information and genetic distances using the mitochondrial gene, cytochrome c oxidase subunit I are provided.

A new species of jumping spider Neonella Gertsch, with notes on the genus and male identification key (Araneae, Salticidae).

Project description:The American genus Neonella Gertsch, 1936 consists of very small jumping spiders whose biology is not well known. The genus currently includes eleven valid species, of which eight are known from both sexes and two are only known from one sex. This paper describes and illustrates a new species Neonella acostae sp. n., demonstrates male palpal variation in Neonella montana Galiano, 1988, and provides some information on the ecology of three sympatric species. New records of Neonella montana and Neonella minuta Galiano, 1965 are reported. Because the previously described species of Neonella were well illustrated and diagnosed, a dichotomous key to males is given along with genital illustrations of both sexes for all known species.

Four species of spider genus Cheiracanthium C. L. Koch, 1839 (Araneae, Eutichuridae) from Jinggang Mountains, Jiangxi Province, China.

Project description:Four species of spider genus Cheiracanthium C. L. Koch, 1839 are reported from Jinggang Mountains, Jiangxi Province, China. Two of them are described as new to science: C. auriculatumsp. n. (♀♂) and C. echinulatumsp. n. (♂). Cheiracanthium taiwanicum Chen, Huang, Chen & Wang, 2006 is recorded from Mainland China for the first time. Cheiracanthium zhejiangense Hu & Song, 1982, the most similar species to C. auriculatumsp. n., is a newly recorded species of Jiangxi Province. Detailed descriptions, diagnoses, and photographs of the two new species are given. Cheiracanthium taiwanicum and C. zhejiangense are also illustrated.

Currently, Myanmar stands as the westernmost country where Liphistius is distributed, with the new species L.kanpetlet sp. nov. being found in the westernmost region of Myanmar.
