Synthesis of Sb2S3 NRs@rGO Composite as High-Performance Anode Material for Sodium-Ion Batteries.

ABSTRACT: Sodium ion batteries (SIBs) have drawn interest as a lithium ion battery (LIB) alternative owing to their low price and low deposits. To commercialize SIBs similar to how LIBs already have been, it is necessary to develop improved anode materials that have high stability and capacity to operate over many and long cycles. This paper reports the development of homogeneous Sb2S3 nanorods (Sb2S3 NRs) on reduced graphene oxide (Sb2S3 NRs @rGO) as anode materials for SIBs. Based on this work, Sb2S3 NRs show a discharge capacity of 564.42 mAh/g at 100 mA/g current density after 100 cycles. In developing a composite with reduced graphene oxide, Sb2S3 NRs@rGO present better cycling performance with a discharge capacity of 769.05 mAh/g at the same condition. This achievement justifies the importance of developing Sb2S3 NRs and Sb2S3 NRs@rGO for SIBs.

Spinel rGO Wrapped CoV2O4 Nanocomposite as a Novel Anode Material for Sodium-Ion Batteries.

Project description:Binary mixed transition-based metal oxides have some of the most potential as anode materials for rechargeable advanced battery systems due to their high theoretical capacity and tremendous electrochemical performance. Nonetheless, binary metal oxides still endure low electronic conductivity and huge volume expansion during the charge/discharge processes. In this study, we synthesized a reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-wrapped CoV2O4 material as the anode for sodium ion batteries. The X-ray diffraction analyses revealed pure-phased CoV2O4 (CVO) rGO-wrapped CoV2O4 (CVO/rGO) nanoparticles. The capacity retention of the CVO/rGO composite anode demonstrated 81.6% at the current density of 200 mA/g for more than 1000 cycles, which was better than that of the bare one of only 73.5% retention. The as-synthesized CVO/rGO exhibited remarkable cyclic stability and rate capability. The reaction mechanism of the CoV2O4 anode with sodium ions was firstly studied in terms of cyclic voltammetry (CV) and ex situ XRD analyses. These results articulated the manner of utilizing the graphene oxide-coated spinel-based novel anode-CoV2O4 as a potential anode for sodium ion batteries.

Improved Electrochemical Performance Based on Nanostructured SnS2@CoS2-rGO Composite Anode for Sodium-Ion Batteries.

Project description:A promising anode material composed of SnS2@CoS2 flower-like spheres assembled from SnS2 nanosheets and CoS2 nanoparticles accompanied by reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was fabricated by a facile hydrothermal pathway. The presence of rGO and the combined merits of SnS2 and CoS2 endow the SnS2@CoS2-rGO composite with high conductivity pathways and channels for electrons and with excellent properties as an anode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). A high capacity of 514.0 mAh g-1 at a current density of 200 mA g-1 after 100 cycles and a good rate capability can be delivered. The defined structure and good sodium-storage performance of the SnS2@CoS2-rGO composite demonstrate its promising application in high-performance SIBs.

MoS2@rGO Nanoflakes as High Performance Anode Materials in Sodium Ion Batteries.

Project description:A simple one-pot hydrothermal method is developed for fabrication of MoS2@rGO nanoflakes using the economical MoO3 as the molybdenum source. Benefiting from the unique nanoarchitecture, high MoS2 loading (90.3 wt%) and the expanded interlayer spacing, the as-prepared MoS2@rGO nanoflakes exhibit greatly enhanced sodium storage performances including a high reversible specific capacity of 441 mAh g-1 at a current density of 0.2 A g-1, high rate capability, and excellent capacity retention of 93.2% after 300 cycles.

Micro-nano structure hard carbon as a high performance anode material for sodium-ion batteries.

Project description:Superior first-cycle Coulomb efficiency (above 80%) is displayed by filter paper-derived micro-nano structure hard carbon, and it delivers a high reversible capacity of 286 mAh g-1 after 100 cycles as the anode for Na-ion battery at 20 mA g-1. These advantageous performance characteristics are attributed to the unique micro-nano structure, which reduced the first irreversible capacity loss by limiting the contact between the electrode and electrolyte, and enhanced the capacity by accelerating electron and Na-ion transfer through inter-connected nano-particles and nano-pores, respectively. The good electrochemical performance indicates that this low-cost hard carbon could be a promising anode for Na-ion batteries.

Large-Area Carbon Nanosheets Doped with Phosphorus: A High-Performance Anode Material for Sodium-Ion Batteries.

Project description:Large-area phosphorus-doped carbon nanosheets (P-CNSs) are first obtained from carbon dots (CDs) through self-assembly driving from thermal treatment with Na catalysis. This is the first time to realize the conversion from 0D CDs to 2D nanosheets doped with phosphorus. The sodium storage behavior of phosphorus-doped carbon material is also investigated for the first time. As anode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), P-CNSs exhibit superb performances for electrochemical storage of sodium. When cycled at 0.1 A g-1, the P-CNSs electrode delivers a high reversible capacity of 328 mAh g-1, even at a high current density of 20 A g-1, a considerable capacity of 108 mAh g-1 can still be maintained. Besides, this material also shows excellent cycling stability, at a current density of 5 A g-1, the reversible capacity can still reach 149 mAh g-1 after 5000 cycles. This work will provide significant value for the development of both carbon materials and SIBs anode materials.

Synthesis and Electrochemical Performance of ZnSe Electrospinning Nanofibers as an Anode Material for Lithium Ion and Sodium Ion Batteries.

Project description:ZnSe nitrogen-doped carbon composite nanofibers (ZnSe@N-CNFs) were derived as anode materials from selenization of electrospinning nanofibers. Electron microscopy shows that ZnSe nanoparticles are distributed in electrospinning nanofibers after selenization. Electrochemistry tests were carried out and the results show the one-dimensional carbon composite nanofibers reveal a great structural stability and electrochemistry performance by the enhanced synergistic effect with ZnSe. Even at a current density of 2 A g-1, the as-prepared electrodes can still reach up to 701.7 mA h g-1 after 600 cycles in lithium-ion batteries and 368.9 mA h g-1 after 200 cycles in sodium-ion batteries, respectively. ZnSe@N-CNFs with long cycle life and high capacity at high current density implies its promising future for the next generation application of energy storage.

Nature of Bimetallic Oxide Sb2MoO6/rGO Anode for High-Performance Potassium-Ion Batteries.

Project description:Potassium-ion batteries (KIBs) are one of the most appealing alternatives to lithium-ion batteries, particularly attractive in large-scale energy storage devices considering the more sufficient and lower cost supply of potassium resources in comparison with lithium. To achieve more competitive KIBs, it is necessary to search for anode materials with a high performance. Herein, the bimetallic oxide Sb2MoO6, with the presence of reduced graphene oxide, is reported as a high-performance anode material for KIBs in this study, achieving discharge capacities as high as 402 mAh g-1 at 100 mA g-1 and 381 mAh g-1 at 200 mA g-1, and reserving a capacity of 247 mAh g-1 after 100 cycles at a current density of 500 mA g-1. Meanwhile, the potassiation/depotassiation mechanism of this material is probed in-depth through the electrochemical characterization, operando X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscope, and density functional theory calculation, successfully unraveling the nature of the high-performance anode and the functions of Sb and Mo in Sb2MoO6. More importantly, the phase development and bond breaking sequence of Sb2MoO6 are successfully identified, which is meaningful for the fundamental study of metal-oxide based electrode materials for KIBs.

Sulfur-Doped Carbon with Enlarged Interlayer Distance as a High-Performance Anode Material for Sodium-Ion Batteries.

3D MoS2/graphene oxide integrated composite as anode for high-performance sodium-ion batteries.

Project description:Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are emerging as a promising alternative to conventional lithium-ion technology, due to the abundance of sodium resources. The major drawbacks for the commercial application of SIBs lie in the slow kinetic processes and poor energy density of the devices. Molybdenum sulfide (MoS2), a graphene-like material, is becoming a promising anode material for SIBs, because of its high theoretical capacity (670 mAh g-1) and layered structure that suitable for Na+ intercalation/extraction. However, the intrinsic properties of MoS2, such as low conductivity, slow Na+ diffusion kinetics and large volume change during charging/discharging, restrict its rate capability and cycle stability. Here, molybdenum disulfide and graphene oxide (3D MoS2/GO) with excellent conductivity were fabricated through layer-by-layer method using amino-functionalized SiO2 nanospheres as templates. The 3D MoS2/GO composite demonstrates excellent cycling stability and capacity of 525 mA h g-1 at 500 mA g-1 after 100 cycles, which mainly due to the integrated MoS2/GO components and unique 3D macroporous structure, facilitating the material conductivity and Na+ diffusion rate, while tolerating the volume expansion of MoS2 during the charge/discharge processes.

Solvothermal-Derived S-Doped Graphene as an Anode Material for Sodium-Ion Batteries.

Project description:Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have attracted enormous attention in recent years due to the high abundance and low cost of sodium. However, in contrast to lithium-ion batteries, conventional graphite is unsuitable for SIB anodes because it is much more difficult to intercolate the larger Na ions into graphite layers. Therefore, it is critical to develop new anode materials for SIBs for practical use. Here, heteroatom-doped graphene with high doping levels and disordered structures is prepared using a simple and economical thermal process. The solvothermal-derived graphene shows excellent performance as an anode material for SIBs. It exhibits a high reversible capacity of 380 mAh g-1 after 300 cycles at 100 mA g-1, excellent rate performance 217 mAh g-1 at 3200 mA g-1, and superior cycling performance at 2.0 A g-1 during 1000 cycles with negligible capacity fade.
