Invaginations of the mitochondrial inner membrane, termed cristae, are hubs for oxidative phosphorylation. The mitochondrial contact site and cristae organizing system (MICOS) and the dimeric F<sub>1</sub>F<sub>o</sub>-ATP synthase play important roles in controlling cristae architecture.
