Realizing an energy-dense, highly rechargeable nonaqueous lithium-oxygen battery in ambient air remains a big challenge because the active materials of the typical high-capacity cathode (Li<sub>2</sub> O<sub>2</sub> ) and anode (Li metal) are unstable in air.
