The ultrafast photochemical reaction of quinone methide (QM) formation from adamantylphenol was monitored in real time using femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy and fluorescence upconversion in solution at room temperature. Experiments were complemented by theoretical studies simulating the reaction pathway and elucidating its mechanism.
