C-type inactivation is of great physiological importance in voltage-activated K<sup>+</sup> channels (Kv), but its structural basis remains unresolved. Knowledge about C-type inactivation has been largely deduced from the bacterial K<sup>+</sup> channel KcsA, whose selectivity filter constricts under inactivating conditions.
