Project description:BackgroundAttention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is often present in people with intellectual disability (ID) and autism. However, few ADHD measures have been developed specifically for individuals with these conditions. There is little literature exploring how well ADHD measures are performing at picking up specific symptoms at the item level.MethodsAnalyses were conducted on data from 122 children aged 7-15 years old with diagnoses of both ADHD and ID enrolled in the Hyperactivity and Special Educational Needs trial. Parents and teachers completed ratings of ADHD symptoms on the Aberrant Behavior Checklist (ABC) hyperactivity subscale and the revised Conners' Rating Scales hyperactivity scale and ADHD index. Cronbach's alpha was used to examine the reliability of these measures. Item response theory explores the performance of individual items. Multiple indicators, multiple causes models were used to test for measurement invariance by ID severity, co-occurring autism traits and child age.ResultsThe reliability of parent and teacher reports of ADHD symptoms on the Conners' and ABC was acceptable across the range of ID. Item performance was generally good, and information was provided across the continuum of ADHD traits. Few items on either measure were non-invariant (i.e., item endorsement generally did not differ based on other child characteristics). When non-invariance was found, the effect was small.ConclusionsBoth the parent-reported and teacher-reported versions of the Conners' hyperactivity scale and ADHD index and the ABC hyperactivity subscale appear to function well in the current sample of children with co-occurring ADHD and ID.

Project description:Meta-analytic results have revealed a significant influence of stress on a wide array of psychological and behavioral markers, underscoring its considerable clinical importance. Providing a simple and cost-effective tool assessing stress for the Arabic-speaking population would be immensely beneficial. Therefore, our research objective was to examine the psychometric properties of an Arabic version of the Stress Numerical Rating Scale-11 (Arabic SNRS-11), including its reliability, and construct validity. 763 adolescents were recruited during November 2023. An anonymous self-administered Google Forms link was distributed via social media networks. The results of the EFA revealed two factors, which explained 66.43% of the common variance. When adding the SNRS-11, Bartlett's test of sphericity, χ2(55) = 4127.1, p < 0.001, and KMO (0.88) remained adequate. The two-factor solution obtained explained 63.28% of the variance. The same structure was obtained in both males and females separately. McDonald's ω and Cronbach's α were very good for all models. Both PSS and Arabic SNRS-11 scores correlated significantly and positively with each other, as well as with higher depression, anxiety and stress scores. Finally, no significant difference was found between males and females in terms of PSS (27.08 ± 6.43 vs. 27.72 ± 6.06; p = 0.163; Cohen's d = 0.102) and Arabic SNRS-11 (4.68 ± 2.56 vs. 4.97 ± 2.52; p = 0.125; Cohen's d = 0.113) scores. The findings indicate that the Arabic SNRS-11 is a cost-effective, valid, and reliable tool for assessing stress. Therefore, it is recommended to use this single item to assess momentary or day-to-day stress among Arabic-speaking adolescents in Arab clinical and research settings. To evaluate the practical effectiveness of the Arabic SNRS-11 and to further enhance the data on its construct validity, future studies should assess the measure in diverse contexts and among specific populations.

Project description:Lay abstractThe Autism Spectrum Rating Scale is a behavioural rating scale completed by parents and teachers that is useful for identifying children with an autism spectrum disorder. The development of a modified Autism Spectrum Rating Scale suitable for use in China is important for the identification of children in China with an autism spectrum disorder. In this study, we examined the Modified Chinese Autism Spectrum Rating Scale using a statistical technique known as Rasch analysis. Rasch analysis tests whether the questionnaire meets the standards for modern scientific measurement. We used Rasch analysis to examine data from 2013 children in China including 420 diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder who had been rated by a parent or grandparent. After removing a small number of items (questions), the Modified Chinese Autism Spectrum Rating Scale met the stringent criteria for Rasch measurement. The availability of a reliable and precise tool for assessing behaviours characteristic of an autism spectrum disorder in Chinese children will improve the identification and diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder in China, thus enabling better provision of support services.

Project description:BackgroundMenopause Rating Scale (MRS) evaluates eleven menopausal symptoms and health related quality of life (HRQOL) of postmenopausal women under three subscales. In this study we attempted cross cultural adaptation and evaluation of psychometric properties of a Sinhala translation of MRS.MethodsSinhala version of MRS was adapted following standard methodology; forward and backward translations, review by an expert group, focus group discussion (FGD) and pre-testing. It was self-administered among randomly selected healthy, Sinhalese, community-dwelling 166 postmenopausal women (aged; median = 56.5, IQR, 53.0-59.0 years) along with the Short Form 36 (SF-36) survey questionnaire. MRS was re-administered among a subsample (n = 80) after two weeks of first administration. Psychometric properties; reliability and validity were evaluated.ResultsIn Sinhala version of MRS, both internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha coefficient = 0.79) and test retest reliability (intra class correlation / ICC = 0.86, 95%CI = 0.82-0.91, p < 0.001 and Pearson correlation / r = 0.93) were high. Factor analysis (FA) with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) extracted three factors explaining 59.82% cumulative variance with few exceptions from the original version. In the item-subscale correlation analysis items showed stronger correlations within their own subscale score (r range between 0.56-0.84) than with other subscales scores and subscales' scores showed strong correlations with the overall MRS score (r range between 0.70-0.86) indicating strong convergent validity. Mean (SD) symptom severities of each item were significantly different between symptomatic and asymptomatic women (p < 0.05) emphasizing good discriminant validity. The overall MRS and SF-36 scores correlated significantly (Pearson correlation: - 0.52, p < 0.01 and Kendall's tau-b: - 0.39, p < 0.01) ensuring strong criterion validity.ConclusionsThe Sinhala version of MRS we adapted is an informative tool with high reliability and validity and this tool can be used to evaluate the menopausal symptoms and HRQOL in postmenopausal women conversant in Sinhala.

Project description:ObjectiveTo translate and validate the version for children and adolescents of the UPPS-P scale into Brazilian Portuguese.MethodAfter a five-step translation process, the final draft was submitted to a panel of 12 different specialties experts. Subsequently, the application of the scale was applied concomitantly with the "Swanson, Nolan, and Pelham Scale - Version IV" (SNAP-IV) and the "Child and Adolescent Behavior Inventory" (CABI) scale to analyze the correlation between them. Content Validity Index (CVI) and reliability were estimated by calculating internal consistency and analyzing its test-retest stability.ResultsThe items whose CVI was lower than 80% underwent a detailed analysis to verify the reason for the bad evaluation. Five items (3, 7, 11, 22 and 35) scored below 80% and were reassessed. There was high internal consistency in all parameters: Lack of premeditation (McDonald's omega = 0.806; Cronbach's alpha = 0.801), Negative Urgency (McDonald's omega = 0.838; Cronbach's alpha = 0.836), Sensation seeking (McDonald's omega = 0.826; Cronbach's alpha = 0.810), Lack of Perseverance (McDonald's omega = 0.800; Cronbach's alpha = 0.799) and Positive Urgency (McDonald's omega = 0.936; Cronbach's alpha = 0.934). A strong correlation was observed between UPPS-P features and impulsivity in behavioral assessments.ConclusionsThe Brazilian Portuguese version of the UPPS-P scale is a good instrument to assess impulsivity in children and adolescents.

Project description:The present study tested the psychometric properties of an expanded version of the Hoarding Rating Scale (HRS-I), a semistructured interview for hoarding disorder (HD). Eighty-seven adults with HD and 44 healthy control (HC) participants were assessed using the HRS-I and completed a battery of self-report measures of HD severity, negative affect, and functional impairment. All interviews were audio recorded. From the HD participants, 21 were randomly selected for inter-rater reliability (IRR) analysis and 11 for test-retest reliability (TRR) analysis. The HRS-I showed excellent internal consistency (α = 0.87). IRR and TRR in the HD sample were good (intra-class coefficients = 0.81 and 0.85, respectively). HRS-I scores correlated strongly with scores on the self-report Saving Inventory-Revised (SI-R); partial correlations indicated that the HRS-I clutter, difficulty discarding, and acquiring items correlated significantly and at least moderately with corresponding SI-R subscales, when controlling for the other SI-R subscales. The HD group scored significantly higher on all items than did the HC group, with large effect sizes (d = 1.28 to 6.58). ROC analysis showed excellent sensitivity (1.00) and specificity (1.00) for distinguishing the HD and HC groups with a cutoff score of 11. Results and limitations are discussed in light of prior research.

Project description:Objective:Menopause-related symptoms can strongly affect health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in most peri-menopausal women. The aim of the present study was to explore the psychometric properties of a culturally adapted and translated Persian version of the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS). Study Design:The study was conducted on a random sample of 270 middle-aged women (age range 40-60 yrs) selected from 25 urban health service centers across Tabriz, Iran. Content validity was evaluated by a panel of 11 experts. Construct validity was assessed by exploratory factor analyses with Varimax rotation and principal axis factoring extraction method and by confirmatory factor analyses. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were assessed with Cronbach's alpha and intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC), respectively. In addition, the feasibility of the measure was judged based on ceiling and floor effects. Results:Content validity of the measure was good with a mean content validity index (CVI) and mean content validity ratio (CVR) of 0.88 and 0.94, respectively. Exploratory factor analyses identified three factors accounting for 47.69% of the variance. Confirmatory factor analyses found the original three-factor model to have the best fit to the data. Cronbach's alpha coefficient (0.85) and the test-retest reliability score (0.91) indicated good internal consistency. Conclusion:The Persian version of the MRS demonstrated excellent reliability and validity. It can therefore be used in both clinical and research settings to assess menopause-related symptoms and associated quality of life.

Project description:BACKGROUND:To measure the severity of menopausal complaints and determine the pattern of menopausal symptoms, a valid and reliable instrument is needed in women's healthcare. The Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) is one of the best-known tools in response to the lack of standardized scales. The purpose of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of the MRS in an Iranian example. METHODS:Participants were randomly selected from women referred to healthcare centers in Miandoab, West Azerbaijan, Iran. A total of 330 questionnaires were completed (response rate of 96.9%). Two samples were considered for analysis in the validation process. An exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted on the first sample (n1?=?165), and a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was done using a second study sample (n2?=?165). The psychometric properties process was concluded with assessment of internal consistency and test-retest reliability. RESULTS:The EFA with Principal Component Analysis extracted three factors explaining 75.47% cumulative variance. The CFA confirmed a three-factor structure of the 11-items MRS. All fit indices proved to be satisfactory. The relative chi-square (?2/df) was 3.686 (p?<?.001). The Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) of the model was .04 (90% CI?=?.105-.150). All comparative indices of the model, including the Comparative Fit Index, Normed Fit Index, and Relative Fit Index, were more than .80 (.90, .87, and .80, respectively). For the overall scale, Cronbach's alpha was .931, whereas the alpha for the subscales ranged from 0.705-0.950. The intraclass correlation was .91 (95% CI?=?.89-.93), p?<?0.001. CONCLUSION:The results of the study indicate that the Persian model of the MRS is a valid and reliable scale. As a screening tool, the Persian MRS could be used to identify the pattern of symptoms among menopausal, premenopausal, and postmenopausal women to care for and educate them on how to identify and treat the symptoms.

Project description:Background: No sufficient biomarkers are available for early identification of autism in the general population. Currently, the diagnosis of ASD depends on behavioral assessments. A useful screening tool can help to detect early autistic symptoms and provide children an early opportunity for ASD-related interventions. This research aimed to assess cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric properties of the autism spectrum rating scale (ASRS) under the Chinese cultural environment. Methods: Participants were recruited from 17 kindergartens and 5 special education schools across five cities (Shanghai, Guangzhou, Changsha, Chengdu, and Harbin) in China. A total of 2,181 kindergarten children and 207 ASD cases participated in this study. Mplus 7.03 was utilized to conduct exploratory factor analysis, followed by adaptive modifications to construct the revised Chinese version of the ASRS (RC_ASRS). Results: The result showed that 62 items comprised a two-factor structure; Factor 1 (social communication, SC) included 21 items, and Factor 2 (unusual behavior, UB) included 41 items. Cronbach's alpha ranged from 0.87 to 0.91 within the RC_ASRS. The total score and the SC and UB scores were significantly higher in ASD cases than in kindergarten samples (Cohen's d ranged from 0.82 to 2.72). The total RC_ASRS score showed an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.95 (95% CI: 0.93-0.97). With a total score cut-off ≥ 60, the RC_ASRS is an excellent tool to identify ASD cases from Chinese kindergarten children (sensitivity = 88.6%, specificity = 84.5%). Conclusions: The RC_ASRS has excellent psychometric properties and is a reliable, useful tool for early ASD screening among Chinese children.

Project description:BackgroundThe School Anxiety Scale-Teacher Report (SAS-TR) was designed to assess anxiety in children at school. The SAS-TR is a proxy rated measure and could assess social anxiety, generalized anxiety and also gives a total anxiety score. This study aimed to translate and validate the SAS-TR in Iran.MethodsThe translation and cultural adaptation of the original questionnaire were carried out in accordance with the published guidelines. A sample of students participated in the study. Reliability was estimated using internal consistency and test-retest analysis. Validity was assessed using content validity. The factor structure of the questionnaire was extracted by performing both exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses.ResultsIn all 200 elementary students aged 6 to 10 years were studied. Considering the recommended cut-off values, overall the prevalence of high anxiety condition in elementary students was found to be 21 %. Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the Iranian SAS-TR was 0.92 and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was found to be 0.81. The principal component analysis indicated a two-factor structure for the questionnaire (generalized and social anxiety) that jointly accounted for 55.3 % of variances observed. The confirmatory factory analysis also indicated a good fit to the data for the two-latent structure of the questionnaire.ConclusionIn general the findings suggest that the Iranian version of SAS-TR has satisfactory reliability, and validity for measuring anxiety in 6 to 10 years old children in Iran. It is simple and easy to use and now can be applied in future studies.
