Autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS) is characterized by chronic nonmalignant lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly, cytopenias, and other autoimmune manifestations. ALPS is caused by lymphocyte accumulation from defects in FAS-mediated apoptosis.
