In this study, we address the fundamental question of the physicochemical and electrochemical properties of phosphonium-based ionic liquids containing the counter-ions bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide ([TFSI]<sup>-</sup>) and bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide ([FSI]<sup>-</sup>).
