Ankyrin proteins act as molecular scaffolds and play an essential role in regulating cellular functions. Recent evidence has implicated the ANK3 gene, encoding ankyrin-G, in bipolar disorder (BD), schizophrenia (SZ), and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
