The western corn rootworm (WCR), <i>Diabrotica virgifera virgifera</i> LeConte (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), is an economically important pest of corn (maize) in North America and Europe. Current management practices for WCR involve transgenic expression of insecticidal proteins to minimize larval feeding damage to corn roots.
