Project description:The mol-ecule of the title compound, C(17)H(20)N(2)O, a symmetrical derivative of urea, shows non-crystallographic C(2) symmetry. Inter-action with the aromatic system of the phenyl substituents as well as amide-type resonance is responsible for the marked planarization of the coordination environments of the N atoms. C-H⋯O contacts give rise to the formation of centrosymmetric dimers in the crystal structure. The closest distance between the centroids of two adjacent rings is 3.8938 (11) Å.

A 1,3-dihydro-1,3-azaborine debuts.

Project description:We present the first synthesis and characterization of a 1,3-dihydro-1,3-azaborine, a long-sought BN isostere of benzene. 1,3-Dihydro-1,3-azaborine is a stable structural motif with considerable aromatic character as evidenced by structural analysis and its reaction chemistry. Single crystal X-ray analysis indicates bonding consistent with significant electron delocalization. 1,3-Dihydro-1,3-azaborines also undergo nucleophilic substitutions at boron and electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions. In view of the versatility and impact of aromatic compounds in the biomedical field and in materials science, the present study further expands the available chemical space of arenes via BN/CC isosterism.

Stereocontrolled 1,3-phosphatyloxy and 1,3-halogen migration relay toward highly functionalized 1,3-dienes.

Project description:A double migratory cascade reaction of α-halogen-substituted propargylic phosphates to produce highly functionalized 1,3-dienes has been developed. This transformation features 1,3-phosphatyloxy group migration followed by 1,3-shifts of bromine and chlorine as well as the unprecedented 1,3-migration of iodine. The reaction is stereodivergent: (Z)-1,3-dienes are formed in the presence of a copper catalyst, whereas gold-catalyzed reactions exhibit inverted stereoselectivity, producing the corresponding E products.

Project description:In the mol-ecule of the title compound, C(14)H(20)N(4)O(3), the five-membered ring adopts an envelope conformation with the O atom displaced by 0.207 (3) Å from the plane of the other ring atoms. Intra-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds result in the formation of three five-membered rings having envelope conformations. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules, forming R(2) (2)(20) ring motifs, which produce two-dimensional polymeric sheets extending along the b axis. There are also two C-H⋯π inter-actions. The H atoms of one of the methyl groups are disordered over two positions and were refined with occupancies of 0.50.

New insights into the molecular mechanisms of 1,3-dinitrobenzene-induced testicular toxicity

Project description:Several studies have shown that 1,3-dinitrobenzene (DNB) causes injury to Sertoli cells and induces apoptosis in the surrounding germinal cells in male laboratory rats ; however, the mechanisms by which DNB functions are not well understood. In this context, we have conducted studies using standard parameters and molecular tools to better understand the pathogenesis of the testicular effects produced by DNB, as well as its mode of action. Wistar rats were orally exposed to 0.1-8 mg DNB/kg/day for 4 days. Testosterone concentrations were not affected at any dose level, but marked histopathological lesions in the testes were recorded at 4 mg/kg/day. Global transcriptomic analysis of rat testes revealed cell cycle and cell death as the major biological processes affected. In particular, we identified an alteration in the expression of genes associated with cell cycle progression (mitotic roles of polo-like kinase). Dinitrobenzene was administered in suspension to rats (7 weeks old at start of treatment) by oral gavage at a daily dose of 0 (control, 0.5% methylcellulose in sterilized water), 0.1, 1, and 4 mg/kg body weight, for 4 consecutive days. Dose-related changes in gene expression were determined in the testes using whole genome oligonucleotide microarrays.

Project description:In the title compound, [Hf(C(15)H(11)O(2))(4)], the Hf(IV) atom is coordinated by four 1,3-diphenyl-propane-1,3-dionato ligands with an average Hf-O distance of 2.17 (3) Å and O-Hf-O bite angles varying from 74.5 (1) to 75.02 (9)°. The coordination polyhedron shows a slightly distorted Archimedean square-anti-prismatic geometry. The crystal packing is stabilized by weak C-H⋯O inter-actions.
