The methoxy group attached to the benzene ring is slightly twisted [C—C—O—C = −15.2 (1)°] from the ring. Project description:The title disubstituted naphthalene-1,4-dione, C(24)H(16)Cl(2)O(2), has the two chloro-benzyl substituents related by a non-crystallographic twofold rotation axis, generating a chiral conformation; both enantiomers are present. The two chlorobenzene rings are nearly perpendicular to the fused ring system, making angles of 88.8 (1) and 77.5 (1)° with it.

Antimicrobial Activity of 2-(Piperazin-1-yl)naphtho[2,3-d]thiazole-4,9-dione against Staphylococcus Strains.

Project description:There is an urgent need to discover and develop novel antibacterial agents. Accordingly, we synthesised 2-(piperazin-1-yl)naphtho[2,3-d]thiazole-4,9-dione (PNT), which exhibits antimicrobial activity. The aim of this study was to characterise PNT as an effective antimicrobial agent. Fluorescence microscopy was used to measure PNT's uptake into microbial cells (strains of Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus, and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA)), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to investigate the influence of PNT on the configuration of microbial cells, and a DNA gyrase supercoiling assay was used to investigate whether PNT inhibits DNA gyrase. PNT was taken up by more than 50% of microbial cells within 30 min. Using TEM, hollowed-out bacterial cytoplasms were observed in the specimen treated with PNT, although there was no disintegration of the bacterial membrane. In the DNA gyrase supercoiling assay, a dose-dependent reduction in fluorescence intensity was observed as the concentration of PNT increased. This suggests that PNT is taken up by microbial cells, resulting in cell disruption, and it reveals that one of the mechanisms underlying the antimicrobial activity of PNT is the inhibition of DNA gyrase.

Project description:In the title compound, C(16)H(13)NO(2), the 2,3-dimethyl-phenyl group and the 1H-isoindole-1,3(2H)-dione group are essentially planar, with r.m.s. deviations of 0.006 and 0.013 Å, respectively, and are oriented at an angle of 78.19 (3)° with respect to each other. In the crystal, weak C-H⋯O inter-actions link the mol-ecules, forming a zigzag chain parallel to the b axis. Futhermore, C-H⋯π inter-actions are present between the C-H group of isoindole and the 2,3-dimethyl-phenyl benzene ring. The H atoms of the ortho-methyl group are statistically disordered over two positions. Such disorder might be related to the antagonism between intra-molecular steric repulsions and inter-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions.

Project description:The crystal structure of bispyrazolone, recrystallized from DMSO, indicates that the enamine tautomer is favored. The title compound, C20H18N4O2, known as bispyrazolone, was crystallized from dimethyl sulfoxide. The structure has orthorhombic (Pbca) symmetry at 150 K, and displays both intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonding through C—H⋯O and N—H⋯O contacts, respectively. None of the phenyl and pyrazolone rings in the molecule are coplanar. The dihedral angle between the pyrazolone rings is 66.18 (5)°.
