Complete Genome Sequence of Dickeya chrysanthemi Bacteriophage DchS19.

ABSTRACT: We characterized the complete genome of a lytic Dickeya chrysanthemi bacteriophage, DchS19, which was isolated from a soil sample in Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia. The phage, from the Autographviridae family, has a 39,149-bp double-stranded DNA genome containing 49 protein-coding genes and shares 94.65% average nucleotide identity with Erwinia phage pEp_SNUABM_12.

Complete genome sequence of a broad-host-range lytic Dickeya spp. bacteriophage ϕD5.

Project description:Little is known about lytic bacteriophages infecting plant-pathogenic Dickeya spp. These bacteria cause economically significant losses in arable crops and ornamental plant production worldwide. At present, there is no effective control of diseases caused by Dickeya spp. A novel bacteriophage, ϕD5, belonging to the family Myoviridae, order Caudovirales, that could be used to control these bacteria was isolated previously. This report provides information on its characterization. The ϕD5 genome consists of 155,346-bp-length double-stranded DNA with a GC content of 49.7 % and is predicted to have 196 open reading frames (ORFs) with an average length of 711 nucleotides each. The ORFs were classified into functional groups, including phage structure, packaging, DNA metabolism, regulation, and additional functions. The phage lifestyle predicted from PHACTS indicated that ϕD5 may be a lytic phage and therefore can efficiently kill plant-pathogenic Dickeya spp.

Project description:We characterized the complete genome sequence of Siphoviridae bacteriophage Erla, an obligatory lytic subcluster EA1 bacteriophage infecting Microbacterium foliorum NRRL B-24224, with a capsid width of 65 nm and a tail length of 112 nm. The 41.5-kb genome, encompassing 62 predicted protein-coding genes, is highly similar (99.52% identity) to that of bacteriophage Calix.

Complete genome sequence of Salmonella bacteriophage SPN3US.

Project description:Salmonella bacteriophage SPN3US was isolated from a chicken fecal sample. It is a virulent phage belonging to the Myoviridae family and showing effective inhibition of Salmonella enterica and a few Escherichia coli O157:H7 strains. Here we announce the completely sequenced first genome of a Salmonella phage using flagella as receptors. It is the largest genome among Salmonella phages sequenced to date, and major findings from its annotation are described.

Complete genome sequence of enterococcal bacteriophage SAP6.

Project description:Enterococcus faecalis is an important bacterium for use as a probiotic and is an opportunistic pathogen in human beings. The antibiotic resistance acquired by E. faecalis is restricted to antibiotics used in the clinical setting. While screening for alternative antibiotics for use against multidrug-resistant E. faecalis, we isolated a virulent enterococcal bacteriophage, SAP6, belonging to the family Siphoviridae. To our knowledge, this study is the first to report the complete genome sequence of bacteriophage SAP6, which might be used as a therapeutic agent in combination with alternative antibiotics for multidrug-resistant E. faecalis.

EFLK1, a new highly effective phage against EFDG1(r) strains, was isolated in this study. The genome of EFLK1 was fully sequenced, analyzed, and deposited in GenBank.

Project description:Croceibacter atlanticus HTCC2559(T), a marine bacterium isolated from the Sargasso Sea, is a phylogenetically unique member of the family Flavobacteriaceae. Strain HTCC2559(T) possesses genes related to interaction with primary producers, which makes studies on bacteriophages infecting the strain interesting. Here we report the genome sequence of bacteriophage P2559S, which was isolated off the coast of the Republic of Korea and lytically infects HTCC2559(T). Many genes predicted in the P2559S genome had their homologs in Bacteroides phages.

Complete genome sequence of Salmonella bacteriophage SS3e.

Project description:A Salmonella lytic bacteriophage, SS3e, was isolated, and its genome was sequenced completely. This phage is able to lyse not only various Salmonella serovars but also Escherichia coli, Shigella sonnei, Enterobacter cloacae, and Serratia marcescens, indicating a broad host specificity. Genomic sequence analysis of SS3e revealed a linear double-stranded DNA sequence of 40,793 bp harboring 58 open reading frames, which is highly similar to Salmonella phages SETP13 and MB78.
