Menaquinones (MKs) are electron carriers in bacterial respiratory chains. In <i>Staphylococcus aureus</i> (<i>Sau</i>), MKs are essential for aerobic and anaerobic respiration. As MKs are redox-active, their biosynthesis likely requires tight regulation to prevent disruption of cellular redox balance.
