Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD<sup>+</sup>) is a coenzyme used in redox reactions, energy metabolism, and mitochondrial biogenesis. NAD<sup>+</sup> is also required as a cofactor by nonredox NAD<sup>+</sup>-dependent enzymes. Hundreds of enzymes that consume NAD<sup>+</sup> have been identified.
