Establishing a tumour bank: banking, informatics and ethics.

ABSTRACT: The six divisions of the Cooperative Human Tissue Network in the USA bank and distribute tens of thousands of tissue specimens to researchers annually. Major operational concerns include: maintaining tissue integrity, managing informatics, and protecting patient confidentiality. Increasing molecular genetics testing is also resulting in an increased demand for high-quality nucleic acids.

Stool Banking for Fecal Microbiota Transplantation: Methods and Operations at a Large Stool Bank.

Project description:ObjectivesFecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a recommended therapy for recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection and is being investigated as a potential therapy for dozens of microbiota-mediated indications. Stool banks centralize FMT donor screening and FMT material preparation with the goal of expanding access to FMT material while simultaneously improving its safety, quality, and convenience. Although there are published consensuses on donor screening guidelines, there are few reports about the implementation of those guidelines in functioning stool banks.MethodsTo help inform consensus standards with data gathered from real-world settings and, in turn, to improve patient care, here we describe the general methodology used in 2018 by OpenBiome, a large stool bank, and its outputs in that year.ResultsIn 2018, the stool bank received 7,536 stool donations from 210 donors, a daily average of 20.6 donations, and processed 4,271 of those donations into FMT preparations. The median time a screened and enrolled stool donor actively donated stool was 5.8 months. The median time between the manufacture of an FMT preparation and its shipment to a hospital or physician was 8.9 months. Half of the stool bank's partner hospitals and physicians ordered an average of 0.75 or fewer FMT preparations per month.ConclusionsFurther knowledge sharing should help inform refinements of stool banking guidelines and best practices.

Are Bank Employees Psychologically and Structurally Empowered? an Assessment from the Indian Banking Sector

Project description:The main purpose of our research is to seek insight into the antecedents of employee empowerment at both organizational and individual levels. We also address the outcomes of empowerment at the individual level. Subsequently, the research discusses the mediation effect of psychological empowerment on structural empowerment and its outcome as job satisfaction. A total of 400 samples were collected from the employees of public and private sector banks in India using an online questionnaire, during the Covid-19 pandemic period. To test the hypotheses, Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and path analysis were used. The study proved that the antecedents such as psychological and structural empowerment have a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction, while psychological empowerment partially mediates between structural empowerment and job satisfaction. This research attempts an integrative approach as suggested by the Social Cognitive Theory for predicting empowerment. We have used unidimensional constructs of psychological empowerment, structural empowerment, and job satisfaction in the Indian banking sector. This study contributes to both theory and practice by providing insights into the benefits of public and private sector bank employees which is gained through the implementation of empowerment policies during the Covid-19 period. Are Bank Employees Stressed? Job Perception and Positivity in the Banking Sector: An Italian Observational Study.

Project description:Background: The epidemiology of stress on bank workers in Europe is only at the introductory stages. This study investigated for the first time the association between occupational stress level in bank-employees using the BEST8, Karasek-Model and socio-demographic and working factors in Italy. Methods: The observational pilot study involved 384 employees. Three questionnaires were adopted to collect data: Karasek-Model, BEST8 (p < 0.001) and Positivity-Scale. Results: 25% of the sample belonged to high stress group. The workers more stressed were older with a commercial role and consumer of antidepressants/sedatives. Women were much more likely to agree with the perception of feeling unsafe in a possible robbery (OR = 2.42; 95% CI: 1.50-3.91) and with that sales requests were in conflict with one's own personal moral code (OR = 2.31; 95% CI: 1.38-3.87). Older employees declared feeling inadequate in the workplace (OR = 1.97; 95% CI: 1.07-3.65) and younger employees referred to be anxious about meeting financial budget goals. Workers who had a low positivity had a lower probability of adaptation (OR = 0.88; 95% CI: 0.83-0.93). Conclusions: The occupational stress level in the banking sector involves many aspects: gender, type of bank, role, personal morals, high job-demands, low level of decision-making. This study recommended that banks should implement strategic interventions for well-being of employees, and consequently for their productivity.

Using a Mixed Model to Explore Evaluation Criteria for Bank Supervision: A Banking Supervision Law Perspective.

Project description:Financial supervision means that monetary authorities have the power to supervise and manage financial institutions according to laws. Monetary authorities have this power because of the requirements of improving financial services, protecting the rights of depositors, adapting to industrial development, ensuring financial fair trade, and maintaining stable financial order. To establish evaluation criteria for bank supervision in China, this study integrated fuzzy theory and the decision making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) and proposes a fuzzy-DEMATEL model. First, fuzzy theory was applied to examine bank supervision criteria and analyze fuzzy semantics. Second, the fuzzy-DEMATEL model was used to calculate the degree to which financial supervision criteria mutually influenced one another and their causal relationship. Finally, an evaluation criteria model for evaluating bank and financial supervision was established.

Role of FinTech Adoption for Competitiveness and Performance of the Bank: A Study of Banking Industry in UAE

Project description:FinTech is the combination of innovation and technology to deliver financial products and services to stakeholders. The paper aims to investigate the impact of FinTech on the competitiveness and performance of the banking industry in the UAE. The research is empirically tested based on the 76 banking professionals and executives (bankers) from Dubai (UAE). The findings suggest that the adoption of FinTech had a significant influence on the competitiveness and competitiveness results in the performance of the banking industry in the UAE. The second findings suggest that proper adoption of FinTech and aligning with the management of technology also have a direct impact on the performance of the baking industry in the UAE. The study becomes important because the UAE Banking industry serves almost 200 nationalities and its performance depending on FinTech and competitiveness. Establishing PNB-qPCR for quantifying minimal ctDNA concentrations during tumour resection.

Project description:The analysis of blood plasma or serum as a non-invasive alternative to tissue biopsies is a much-pursued goal in cancer research. Various methods and approaches have been presented to determine a patient's tumour status, chances of survival, and response to therapy from serum or plasma samples. We established PNB-qPCR (Pooled, Nested, WT-Blocking qPCR), a highly specific nested qPCR with various modifications to detect and quantify minute amounts of circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) from very limited blood plasma samples. PNB-qPCR is a nested qPCR technique combining ARMS primers, blocking primers, LNA probes, and pooling of multiple first round products for sensitive quantification of the seven most frequent point mutations in KRAS exon 2. Using this approach, we were able to characterize ctDNA and total cell-free DNA (cfDNA) kinetics by selective amplification of KRAS mutated DNA fragments in the blood plasma over the course of tumour resection and the surrounding days. Whereas total cfDNA concentrations increased over the surgical and regenerative process, ctDNA levels showed a different scheme, rising only directly after tumour resection and about three days after the surgery. For the first time, we present insights into the impact of surgery on the release of ctDNA and total cfDNA.

Establishing a clinical informatics umbilical cord: lessons learned in launching infrastructure to support dyadic mother/infant primary care

Project description:Abstract The Multimodal Maternal Infant Perinatal Outpatient Delivery System (MOMI PODS) was developed to facilitate the pregnancy to postpartum primary care transition, particularly for individuals at risk for severe maternal morbidity, via a unique multidisciplinary model of mother/infant dyadic primary care. Specialized clinical informatics platforms are critical to ensuring the feasibility and scalability of MOMI PODS and a smooth perinatal transition into longitudinal postpartum primary care. In this manuscript, we describe the MOMI PODS transition and management clinical informatics platforms developed to facilitate MOMI PODS referrals, scheduling, evidence-based multidisciplinary care, and program evaluation. We discuss opportunities and lessons learned associated with our applied methods, as advances in clinical informatics have considerable potential to enhance the quality and evaluation of innovative maternal health programs like MOMI PODS.
