ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(22)H(16)N(2)OS(2), the phenanthrene ring is nearly perpendicular to the phenyl ring, making a dihedral angle of 87.2?(2)°. Intra-molecular N-H?O inter-actions are present. In the crystal structure, the mol-ecules are linked through inter-molecular C-H?O inter-actions. The crystal structure is also stabilized by C-H?? inter-actions and weak ?-? contacts [centroid-centroid distance = 3.36?(6)?Å].

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C21H16ClNO4, contains two independent mol-ecules (A and B), each adopting a conformation wherein the isoxazole ring is roughly orthogonal to the anthrone ring. The dihedral angle between the mean plane of the isoxazole (all atoms) and the mean plane of the anthrone (all atoms) is 88.48 (3)° in one mol-ecule and 89.92 (4)° in the other. The ester is almost coplanar with the isoxazole ring, with mean-plane dihedral angles of 2.48 (15) and 8.62 (5)°. In both mol-ecules, the distance between the ester carbonyl O atom and the anthrone ketone C atom is about 3.3 Å. The anthrone ring is virtually planar (r.m.s. deviations of 0.070 and 0.065 Å) and adopts a shallow boat conformation in each mol-ecule, as evidenced by the sum of the six intra-B-ring torsion angles [41.43 (15) and 34.38 (15)° for molecules A and B, respectively]. The closest separation between the benzene moieties of anthrones A and B is 5.1162 (7) Å, with an angle of 57.98 (5)°, consistent with an edge-to-face π-stacking inter-action. In the crystal, weak C-H⋯O and C-H⋯N inter-actions link the mol-ecules, forming a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The title hydrated molecular salt, 2C(12)H(9)N(2) (+)·C(14)H(6)O(8)S(2) (2-)·6H(2)O, consists of 1,10-phenanthrolinium (phen-H(+)) cations, anthraquinone-1,5-disulfonate (AQDS(2-)) anions, which occupy a centre of inversion, and water molecules of crystal-lization. In the crystal, a supra-molecular network structure is formed via N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and weak C-H⋯O and π-π stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.651 (6) and 3.545 (8) Å].

Computational studies of 2-(4-oxo-3-phenylthiazolidin-2-ylidene)malononitrile.

Project description:The molecular structure of the 2-(4-oxo-3-phenylthiazolidin-2-ylidene) malononitrile (3) is calculated using DFT B3LYP/6-311G(d, p) method. The calculated geometric parameters are in good agreement with the experimental data. The NBO calculations were performed to predict the natural atomic charges at the different atomic sites and study the different intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) interactions occurring in the studied system. The BD(2)C17-C19 → BD*(2)C14-C15, LP(2)O2 → BD*(1)N5-C9 and LP(1)N5 → BD*(2)C10-C11 ICT interactions causing stabilization of the system by 23.30, 30.63 and 52.48 kcal/mol, respectively. The two intense electronic transition bands observed experimentally at 249 nm and 296 nm are predicted using the TD-DFT calculations at 237.9 nm (f = 0.1618) and 276.4 nm (f = 0.3408), respectively. These electronic transitions are due to H-3 → L (94%) and H → L (95%) excitations, respectively.

Project description:The synthesis and characterization of new tris(carbene)borate ligand precursors containing substituted benzimidazol-2-ylidene and 1,3,4-triazol-2-ylidene donor groups, as well as a new tris(imidazol-2-ylidene)borate ligand precursor are reported. The relative donor strengths of the tris(carbene)borate ligands have been evaluated by the position of ν(NO) in four-coordinate {NiNO}(10) complexes, and follow the order: imidazol-2-ylidene > benzimidazol-2-ylidene > 1,3,4-triazol-2-ylidene. There is a large variation in ν(NO), suggesting these ligands to have a wide range of donor strengths while maintaining a consistent ligand topology. All ligands are stronger donors than Tp* and Cp*.

Project description:The title compound, C(21)H(21)N(3)O(7)S, contains an oxazolidinone ring and a sulfonamide group, both characteristic for biologically and pharrmaceutically active compounds. Both stereogenic centres reveal an S absolute configuration. The two oxazolidinone rings are in an envelope conformation with the methyl-ene carbon flap atoms deviating by 0.428 (1) and 0.364 (2) Å from the best least-square planes formed by the four other ring atoms. An intra-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bond contributes to the folded conformation of the mol-ecule. In the crystal, weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions connect the mol-ecules into helices along the the twofold screw axes.

Project description:In the title compound, C14H11N3OS, the ace-naphthyl-ene ring system and hydrazinecarbo-thio-amide unit (=N-NH-C=S-NH-) are essentially coplanar [with maximum deviations from their mean planes of -0.009?(2) and 0.033?(2)?Å, respectively], and make a dihedral angle of 1.59?(9)°. The mol-ecular conformation is stabilized by two weak intra-molecular hydrogen bonds (N-H?O and N-H?N), which generate S(6) and S(5) ring motifs. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-H?S hydrogen bonds, forming chains along [010]. The chains are linked via pairs of C-H?O hydrogen bonds, enclosing R (2) 2(10) ring motifs, and C-H?? inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional framework. The absolute structure of the title compound was determined by resonant scattering.

Project description:The title compound, [Ag2(C2H3O2)2(C19H20N2)2] (2), was readily synthesized by treatment of 3-benzyl-1-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazolium chloride with silver acetate. The solution structure of the complex was analyzed by NMR spectroscopy, while the solid-state structure was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Compound 2 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1¯, with a silver-to-carbene bond length (Ag-CNHC) of 2.084 (3) Å. The molecule resides on an inversion center, so that only half of the molecule is crystallographically unique. The planes defined by the two imidazole rings are parallel to each other, but not coplanar [interplanar distance is 0.662 (19) Å]. The dihedral angles between the imidazole ring and the benzyl and mesityl rings are 77.87 (12) and 72.86 (11)°, respectively. The crystal structure features π-π stacking interactions between the benzylic groups of inversion-related (-x + 1, -y + 1, -z + 1) molecules and C-H ⋯ π interactions.

Photocatalytic oxygenation of 10-methyl-9,10-dihydroacridine by O? with manganese porphyrins.

Project description:Photocatalytic oxygenation of 10-methyl-9,10-dihydroacridine (AcrH2) by dioxygen (O2) with a manganese porphyrin [(P)Mn(III): 5,10,15,20-tetrakis-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)porphinatomanganese(III) hydroxide [(TMP)Mn(III)(OH)] (1) or 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrinatomanganese(III) acetate [(TPFPP)Mn(III)(CH3COO)] (2)] occurred to yield 10-methyl-(9,10H)-acridone (Acr?O) in an oxygen-saturated benzonitrile (PhCN) solution under visible light irradiation. The photocatalytic reactivity of (P)Mn(III) in the presence of O2 is in proportion to concentrations of AcrH2 or O2 with the maximum turnover numbers of 17 and 6 for 1 and 2, respectively. The quantum yield with 1 was determined to be 0.14%. Deuterium kinetic isotope effects (KIEs) were observed with KIE = 22 for 1 and KIE = 6 for 2, indicating that hydrogen-atom transfer from AcrH2 is involved in the rate-determining step of the photocatalytic reaction. Femtosecond transient absorption measurements are consistent with photoexcitation of (P)Mn(III), resulting in intersystem crossing from a tripquintet excited state to a tripseptet excited state. A mechanism is proposed where the tripseptet excited state reacts with O2 to produce a putative (P)Mn(IV) superoxo complex. Hydrogen-atom transfer from AcrH2 to (P)Mn(IV)(O2(•-)) generating a hydroperoxo complex (P)Mn(IV)(OOH) and AcrH(•) is likely the rate-determining step, in competition with back electron transfer to regenerate the ground state (P)Mn(III) and O2. The subsequent reductive O-O bond cleavage by AcrH(•) may occur rapidly inside of the reaction cage to produce (P)Mn(V)(O) and AcrH(OH), followed by the oxidation of AcrH(OH) by (P)Mn(V)(O) to yield Acr?O with regeneration of (P)Mn(III).

Project description:A facile and highly efficient method for the preparation of 2-(3-oxoindolin-2-ylidene)acetonitriles from 4-(2-aminophenyl)-4-oxo-2-phenylbutanenitriles is described. The featured transformation operates via nucleophilic intramolecular cyclization and involves oxidation of the aniline moiety. Overall, this modification allowed for the improvement of yields and expansion of the reaction scope.
