(E)-3-(2,3,4,5,6-Penta-fluoro-styr-yl)thio-phene.

ABSTRACT: The reaction of thio-phene-3-carboxaldehyde and perfluoro-benzyl-triphenyl-phospho-nium bromide in the presence of sodium hydride gave the title compound, C(12)H(5)F(5)S, in 70% yield. The thiophene and perfluorophenyl groups form a dihedral angle of 5.4?(2)°. The structure is characterized by a head-to-tail organization in a columnar arrangement due to ?-? inter-actions between the thio-phene and penta-fluoro-phenyl rings with centroid-centroid distances in the range 3.698?(2)-3.802?(2)?Å.

Project description:In the title compound, C(12)H(9)FN(2)OS, the thienyl ring is disordered over two positions, with the S atom of the major component [occupancy = 87.08?(16)°] oriented towards the ortho-H atom of the benzene ring. The mol-ecule is nearly planar, the dihedral angle between the thio-phene and benzene rings being 13.0?(2)° in the major component. The azomethine C=N double bond in the mol-ecule is of an E configuration. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by pairs of N-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming inversion dimers.

Project description:The mol-ecular structure of the title compound, [Fe(C9H6BrS)(C13H7F6)], consists of a ferrocene backbone with a bis-(tri-fluoro-meth-yl)phenyl group at one cyclo-penta-dienyl ring and a thio-phene heterocycle at the other cyclo-penta-dienyl ring. The latter is disordered over two sets of sites in a 0.6:0.4 ratio. In the crystal structure, intra-molecular ?-? inter-actions between the thienyl and the phenyl substituent [centroid-centroid distance 3.695?(4)?Å] and additional weak T-shaped ?-? inter-actions between the thienyl and the phenyl-substituted cyclo-penta-dienyl ring [4.688?(6)?Å] consolidate the crystal packing.

This is due to the presence of an electrochemically active thienyl heterocycle and a reactive dibromo-vinyl substituent, which easily undergoes dehydro-bromination in the presence of n-butyl-lithium to afford 2-ethynyl-thio-phene. In the molecule, the alkenyl unit and the thio-phene ring are almost coplanar with an angle of 3.5?(2)° between the normals of the best planes of the thio-phene ring and the vinyl moiety.

Crystal structure of penta-carbon-yl(2,2-di-fluoro-propane-thio-ato-κS)manganese(I).

Project description:The title compound, [Mn{SC(O)CF2CH3}(CO)5], has been isolated as a by-product during the reaction of K[Mn(CO)5] with CH3CF2COCl. It is built up from a di-fluoro-methyl-propane-thio-ate bonded to an Mn(CO)5 moiety through the S atom. The Mn atom has an almost perfect octa-hedral coordination sphere. It is one of the rare examples of compounds containing the (CO)5MnS-C fragment. In the crystal, the methyl group occupies a pocket surrounded by the O atoms of three carbonyl groups of the Mn(CO)5 moiety; however, the H⋯O distances are rather long. These inter-actions lead to the formation of layers lying parallel to (101), which enclose R 4 4(15) and R 4 4(16) ring motifs. The CF2 group is disordered over two sets of sites with occupancies of 0.849 (3) and 0.151 (3).

Project description:The title complex, Cu(L)2 or [Cu(C15HF10O2)2], comprised of one copper ion and two fully fluorinated ligands (L -), was crystallized with 3,4-ethyl-ene-dioxy-thio-phene (EDOT, C6H6O2S) as a guest mol-ecule to give in a di-chloro-methane solution a unique co-crystal, Cu(L)2·3C6H6O2S. In the crystal, the oxygen of one guest mol-ecule, EDOT-1, is coordinated to the metal to give an alternate linear arrangement, and the π-planes of the others, EDOT-2 and EDOT-3, inter-act weakly with the penta-fluoro-phenyl groups of the complex through arene-perfluoro-arene inter-actions. Head-to-tail columnar and head-to-head dimeric arrangements are observed for EDOT-2 and EDOT-3, respectively, in the crystal. The Hirshfeld surface analysis indicated that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from the F⋯F (20.4%), F⋯H/H⋯F (24.5%) and F⋯C/C⋯F (9.6%) inter-actions. The density functional theory (DFT) optimized structure at the ωB97X-D 6-31G* level was compared with the experimentally determined mol-ecular structure in the solid state.

Project description:The title compound, C(18)H(12)S, contains a thio-phene ring which is disordered by rotation of 180° about the linking C-C bond. The site occupancies of the major and minor components of the disordered ring are 0.900?(3) and 0.100?(3), respectively. In one of these disordered components, the mol-ecule is stabilized by an intra-molecular C-H?S hydrogen bond. The compound was synthesized in good yield (80%) by a modified phase-transfer-catalysed condensation of fluorene with thio-phene-2-carbaldehyde.

Adjacent chains are connected into a three-dimensional network by C-H?O and O-H?O inter-actions.
