Diaqua-(isonicotinamide-?N)(4-meth-oxy-benzoato-?O,O')(4-meth-oxy-benzoato-?O)cobalt(II).

ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [Co(C(8)H(7)O(3))(2)(C(6)H(6)N(2)O)(H(2)O)(2)], the Co(II) atom is coordinated by three O atoms from two 4-meth-oxy-benzoate ligands, which act in different modes, viz. monodentate and bidentate, two water mol-ecules and one N atom of the isonicotinamide ligand in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The monodentate-coordinated carboxyl-ate group is involved in an intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond with the coordinated water mol-ecule. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into layers parallel to the ab plane. The crystal packing is further stabilized by weak C-H?O hydrogen bonds and ?-? inter-actions indicated by the short distance of 3.6181?(8)?Å between the centroids of the benzene and pyridine rings of neighbouring mol-ecules.

Project description:The mol-ecule of the title Zn(II) complex, [Zn(C(9)H(10)NO(2))(2)(C(6)H(6)N(2)O)(H(2)O)(2)], contains two 4-(dimethyl-amino)benzoate (DMAB) ligands, one isonicotinamide (INA) ligand and two water mol-ecules; one of the DMAB ions acts as a bidentate ligand while the other and INA are monodentate ligands. The four O atoms in the equatorial plane around the Zn atom form a distorted square-planar arrangement, while the distorted octa-hedral coordination is completed by the N atom of the INA ligand and the O atom of the water mol-ecule in the axial positions. Intra-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonding results in the formation of a six-membered ring adopting an envelope conformation. The dihedral angle between the carboxyl groups and the adjacent benzene rings are 4.87?(16) and 2.2?(2)°, while the two benzene rings are oriented at a dihedral angle of 65.13?(8)°. The dihedral angle between the benzene and pyridine rings are 11.47?(7) and 74.83?(8)°, respectively. The four O atoms in the equatorial plane around the Co(II) ion form a slightly distorted square-planar arrangement, while the slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination is completed by the two pyridine N atoms of the NA ligands in the axial positions. The dihedral angle between the carboxyl-ate group and the attached benzene ring is 6.47?(7)°, while the pyridine and benzene rings are oriented at a dihedral angle of 72.80?(4)°. An O-H?O hydrogen bond links the uncoordinated water mol-ecule to one of the carboxyl-ate groups. Project description:The hydro-thermal reaction of CoCO(3) and 4-fluoro-benzoic acid afforded the title Co(II) complex, [Co(C(7)H(4)FO(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)](n). The Co(II) atom is located on an inversion center and is coordinated by six O atoms from two water mol-ecules and four μ(2)-carboxyl-ate groups of 4-fluoro-benzoate anions, forming a distorted CoO(6) octa-hedron, with Co-O bond lengths in the range 2.071 (2)-2.130 (2) Å. All adjacent O-Co-O angles are in the range 84.78 (6)-95.22 (6)° and opposite angles are 180.0°. Each μ-carboxyl-ate group of the 4-fluoro-benzoate anions bridges two symmetry-related Co(II) atoms. Hydrogen-bonding inter-actions of the coordinated water mol-ecules further connect the cobalt-carboxyl-ate units, forming layers perpendicular to the a axis. The cobalt-oxygen layers are encased in a sandwich-like fashion by layers of π-stacked 4-fluoro-benzoate anions. Within these layers the benzene rings of the 4-fluoro-benzoate anions are π-stacked, with centroid-centroid distances of 3.432 (4) Å.
