ABSTRACT: The title salt, [CoBr(C11H27N5)]Br2·2H2O, contains a complex cation with mirror symmetry and two Br(-) counter-anions that are likewise located on the mirror plane. The central Co(III) atom of the complex cation has one Br(-) ion in an axial position, one N atom of the penta-dentate macrocyclic ligand in the other axial position and four N atoms of the ligand in equatorial positions, defining a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. The macrocyclic ligand is coordinated to the Co(III) atom within a 5, 6, 5 arrangement of chelate rings in the equatorial plane of the four N atoms. Due to symmetry, the configuration of the chiral N atoms is 1RS, 4SR, 10RS, 13SR. In the crystal, N-H?Br, O-H?Br and N-H?O hydrogen bonds between the complex cation, anions and lattice water mol-ecules generate a three-dimensional network.

Project description:There are two formula units (Z' = 2) in the asymmmetric unit of the title compound, [CuBr(C(16)H(32)N(4))]Br·2H(2)O. The title crystal consists of two [Cu(C(16)H(32)N(4))](2+) cations, two Br(-) anions and four uncoordinated water mol-ecules. The metal atom is five-coordinate square pyramidal, with a long apical Cu-Br bond [2.9734?(11) and 2.9229?(11)?Å in the two cations]. The two cations form a loosely associated dimer through the formation of hydrogen bonds between both N-H and O-H and Br(-). In addition, there is a network of N-H?Br, O-H?Br and N-H?O hydrogen bonds, leading to the formation of a chain structure.

Project description:The crystal structure of the Ni-14 macrocycle salt, (5,7,7,12,12,14-hexa-methyl-1,4,8,11-tetra-aza-cyclo-tetra-deca-ne)nickel(II) bis-(perchlorate) hemihydrate, [Ni(C16H36N4)]2(ClO4)4·H2O, contains two different diasteriomeric macrocyclic cations in the asymmetric unit, one with two NH protons on each side of the cation (Ia), and the other with all four NH protons on the same side (Ib). The crystal structure of the bromide trihydrate salt of the same Ni-14 macrocyclic cation, namely (5,7,7,12,12,14-hexa-methyl-1,4,8,11-tetra-aza-cyclo-tetra-deca-ne)nickel(II) dibromide trihydrate, [Ni(C16H36N4)]Br2·3H2O (II), contains only the same diastereomer as Ib, with the four N-H bonds on the same side. The geometry around the Ni atom differs slightly between the two diastereomeric cations, as the mean Ni-N distance in Ia is 1.952?(2)?Å, while that for Ib and II is 1.928?(2)?Å. The hexa-methyl substitution in all three macrocyclic cations has the two dimethyl-substituted C atoms cis to one another, different from the trans 5,5,7,12,12,14-hexa-methyl Ni-14 cations found in all but one of the many published crystal structures of hexa-methyl Ni-14 macrocycles. In each of the two crystal structures, the anions, water mol-ecules, and N-H protons of the macrocyclic cations form extensive hydrogen-bonded zigzag chains propagating along [001] in I and [010] in II.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, trans-di-aqua-(3,10-dimethyl-1,3,5,8,10,12-hexa-aza-cyclo-tetra-decane-κ4 N 1,N 5,N 8,N 12)copper(II) 4,4'-methyl-ene-bis(3-hy-droxy-naphthalene-2-carboxyl-ate), [Cu(C10H26N6)(H2O)2](C23H14O6) {[Cu(L)(H2O)2](pam), where L = 3,10-dimethyl-1,3,5,8,10,12-hexa-aza-cyclo-tetra-decane and pam = dianion of pamoic acid} consists of two independent halves of the [Cu(L)(H2O)2]2+ cation and one di-carboxyl-ate anion. The CuII atoms, lying on inversion centres, are coordinated by the four secondary N atoms of the macrocyclic ligands and the mutually trans O atoms of the water mol-ecules in a tetra-gonally elongated octa-hedral geometry. The average equatorial Cu-N bond length is significantly shorter than the average axial Cu-O bond length [2.007 (10) and 2.486 (18) Å, respectively]. The macrocyclic ligand in the complex cations adopts the most energetically stable trans-III conformation. The complex cations and anions are connected via hydrogen-bonding inter-actions between the N-H groups of the macrocycles and the O-H groups of coordinated water mol-ecules as the proton donors and the O atoms of the carboxyl-ate as the proton acceptors into layers lying parallel to the (11) plane.

Project description:The square-planar nickel(II) title complex, [Ni(C24H36F2N6)](ClO4)2 or [NiL](ClO4)2 (L = 3,10-bis-(4-fluoro-pheneth-yl)-1,3,5,8,10,12-hexa-aza-cyclo-tetra-deca-ne) was synthesized by a one-pot reaction of template condensation and its X-ray crystal structure was determined. The nickel(II) ion lies close by a twofold axis and the complex displays whole-mol-ecule disorder. Ligand L, a hexa-aza-cyclo-tetra-decane ring having 4-fluoro-phenethyl side chains attached to uncoordinated nitro-gen atoms, adopts a trans III (R,R,S,S) configuration. The average Ni-N bond distance is 1.934 (9) Å, which is quite similar to those of other nickel(II) complexes with similar ligands. The nickel(II) ion is located 0.051 (7) Å above the least-squares plane through the four coordinated N atoms. The average C-N bond distance and C-N-C angle involving uncoordinated nitro-gen atoms are 1.425 (12) Å and 118.0 (9)°, respectively, indicating a significant contribution of sp 2 hybridization for these N atoms. The inter-molecular N-H⋯O, C-H⋯O/F hydrogen bonds of the complex form a network structure, which looks like a seamless floral lace pattern.

Project description:The title compound, C16H20N2 2+·2Br-·H2O (1) is a member of the class of compounds called viologens. Viologens are quaternary salts of di-pyridyls and are especially useful as redox indicators as a result of their large negative one-electron reduction potentials. Compound 1 consists of a dication composed of a pair of 4-methyl-pyridine rings mutually joined at the 2-position, with a dihedral angle between the pyridine rings of 62.35 (4)°. In addition, the rings are tethered via the pyridine nitro-gen atoms by a tetra-methyl-ene bridge. Charge balance is provided by a pair of bromide anions, which are hydrogen bonded to a single water mol-ecule [D O⋯Br = 3.3670 (15) and 3.3856 (15) Å]. The crystal structure of 1, details of an improved synthesis, and a full analysis of its NMR spectra are presented.

Project description:The title compound, C(18)H(24)I(2), has an adamantanoid structure with tetra-hedral cages having four C atoms lying on the same plane [(I-)C-C-C-C(-I) torsion angle = 0°]. The plane is extended by the two I atoms, each having a deviation of 1.0?(6)?Å [C-C-C-I torsion angle = 178.9?(4)°]. The central C-C bond connecting the two quaternary carbons seems enlarged [1.593?(9)?Å] in comparison to the corresponding bond in [2]diadamantane [1.554?(3)?Å]. This is attributed to the presence of the electronegative I atoms, which affect inductively the C atoms of the four-C-atom plane, making the central C-C bond weaker.

The coordinated macrocyclic ligand in the cations of both compounds adopts the most energetically favorable trans-III conformation. In the crystals, the complex cations and counter-anions are connected via hydrogen-bonding inter-actions between the N-H groups of the macrocycles and the O-H groups of coordinated water mol-ecules as the proton donors and the O atoms of the carboxyl-ate as the proton acceptors. Additionally, as a result of O-H?O hydrogen bonding with the coordinated and water mol-ecules of crystallization, the isophthalate dianions form layers lying parallel to the (01) and (100) planes in (I) and (II), respectively.
