The crystal structure features inversion dimers with graph-set motif R 2 (2)(18) formed by C-H?O inter-actions.

The dihedral angle between the outer benzene rings is 26.53?(8)°. The mean plane through the anthrone ring system makes a dihedral angle of 38.73?(6)° with the pendant benzene ring. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by C-H?O hydrogen bonds into zigzag chains propagating along the c-axis direction and weak C-H?? inter-actions further consolidate the structure.

In both mol-ecules, the central heterocyclic ring adopts a sofa conformation.
