ABSTRACT: The title compound, C14H14BrNO4, contains a tricyclic ring system including three contiguous stereocenters all of which exhibit an R configuration. The cyclo-hexa-none ring adopts a chair conformation. The central oxane ring assumes a strained envelope conformation, with five of the ring atoms being nearly coplanar with the bromo-phenyl group and with the C atom adjacent to the O atom and fused with the cyclo-hexa-none ring as the flap. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into a three-dimensional network by C-H?O inter-actions.

Its X-ray crystal structure determination confirms an abietane skeleton which was predicted by spectroscopic analysis, mainly by (1)H and (13)C NMR. The cyclo-hexane ring adopts a flattened chair conformation, while the cyclo-hexene ring adopts an envelope conformation. The mol-ecules are linked through O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds to form a zigzag chain extending parallel to the c axis.

In the former substituent, the six-membered xanthenyl ring adopts a flattened envelope conformation (with the methine C atom as the flap) while in the latter, the six-membered xanthenyl ring adopts a twisted envelope conformation (with the C atom bearing the hy-droxy group representing the flap). The hy-droxy H atom forms an intra-molecular hydrogen bond to the pyridyl N atom. An ethanol solvent mol-ecule is disordered with respect to a water mol-ecule in a 1:1 ratio. The water mol-ecule itself is disordered over two positions of equal occupancy.

Project description:In the title compound, C16H15BrN2O4, the six-membered carbocyclic ring of the chromene moiety adopts an envelope conformation with the disordered methyl-ene C atom as the flap. The pyran ring is almost orthogonal to the chloro-phenyl ring, making a dihedral angle of 87.11?(12)°. The amine-group N atom deviates significantly from the pyran ring [0.238?(3)?Å]. The mol-ecular structure is stabilized by an intra-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bond, which generates an S(6) ring motif. Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, C(14)H(14)N(2)O(5), contains two distinct conformers in the asymmetric unit. The compound has three defined stereocenters, two of them contiguous, and a C=C double bond with an E conformation. The stereocenters exhibit the same chirality in both conformers, with significant differences in the conformation of the five-membered rings of the pyrrolizine unit (both either in a twist or in an envelope form) and in the dihedral angles between the corresponding mean planes and the benzene rings. A prominent feature is a change from almost coplanar rings in one conformer to a new conformation in the second conformer, in which the mean plane of a five-membered ring is almost perpendicular to the benzene ring, with a dihedral angle 87.19?(8)°; the corresponding angle in the first conformer is 14.02?(10)°. In the crystal, molecules are linked by O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds. Crystallographic data were essential to confirm the configuration of the double bond, which was unclear from the available two-dimensional NMR data. In addition, reliable Flack and Hooft parameters were obtained, allowing for the correct absolute structure to be determined.
