Crystal structure of racemic cis-2-amino-1,2-di-phenyl-ethanol (ADE).

ABSTRACT: In the title racemic compound, C14H15NO, the hy-droxy and amino groups form a bent tweezer-like motif towards the phenyl groups. In the crystal, enanti-omers aggregate with each other and are linked by O-H?N hydrogen bonds, forming chiral 21-helical columnar structures from C(5) chains along the b-axis direction. Left- and right-handed 21 helices are formed from (1S,2R)-2-amino-1,2-di-phenyl-ethanol and (1R,2S)-2-amino-1,2-di-phenyl-ethanol, respectively.

Project description:The synthesis and crystal structure of the title compound, C30H29NO, are described. This compound is a member of the chiral di-hydro-iso-quinoline-derived family, used as building blocks for functional materials and as source of chirality in asymmetric synthesis, and was isolated as one of two diastereomeric β-amino alcohols, the title mol-ecule being found to be the (S,R) diastereoisomer. In the crystal, mol-ecules are packed in a herringbone manner parallel to (103) and (10) via weak C-H⋯O and C-H⋯π(ring) inter-actions. Hirshfeld surface analysis showed that the surface contacts are predominantly H⋯H inter-actions (ca 75%). The crystal studied was refined as a two-component inversion twin.

Project description:The title compound, C21H25NO3, crystallized as a racemic twin in the Sohnke space group P21. In the mol-ecular structure of the title compound, both enanti-omers show a highly similar conformation with the urethane function and the benzoyl group showing an almost perpendicular arrangement [the dihedral angle is 72.46 (8)° in the S-enanti-omer and 76.21 (8)° in the R-enanti-omer]. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules of both enanti-omers show infinite helical arrangements parallel to the b axis formed by weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the phenyl ring of the benzoyl group and the carbamate carbonyl group. In case of the R-enanti-omer, this helix is additionally stabilized by a bifurcated hydrogen bond between the carbonyl function of the benzoyl group towards both phenyl groups of the mol-ecule.

In the crystal, weak C-H⋯N inter-actions exist between adjacent mol-ecules. One of the di-methyl-phenyl rings has a small amount of π-π overlap with the phenyl ring of an adjacent mol-ecule [centroid-to-centroid distance = 3.9631 (12) Å].

Project description:In the title compound, C34H28O4, the cyclo-hexa-diene ring has a screw-boat conformation with a torsion angle between the double bonds being on average ca 15° [15.2 (3) and -15.3 (3) in the two independent mol-ecules]. The two mol-ecules exhibit S,R- and R,S- chirality, respectively, and are connected via C-H⋯O inter-molecular inter-actions. In turn, these weakly bound dimers form the mol-ecular crystal.

Project description:The title compound, [PdCl2(C28H24N2)]·CH3OH, was pre-pared from the reaction of PdCl2(DMSO)2 (DMSO is di-methyl sulfoxide) and N,N'-bis-(4-methyl-phen-yl)-1,2-di-phenyl-ethane-1,2-di-imine in methanol. The chelating di-imine core of the title compound deviates slightly from planarity, with an N-C-C-N torsion angle of 5.3 (3)°. Delocalization in the di-imine core is indicated by N-C and C-C bonds that are, respectively, longer and shorter than those found in related nonchelating di-imines. The distorted square-planar coordination environment around the Pd(II) atom is manifested as bond angles that are smaller and larger than 90°, and palladacycle torsion angles of -173.22 (16) and 167.06 (16)°. These deviations are attributed to the small bite angle of 79.13 (8)° of the di-imine chelate. The crystal packing exhibits weak inter-molecular hydrogen-bonding inter-actions involving aromatic H atoms, Cl atoms and inter-calated methanol solvent mol-ecules, defining layers parallel to (010).
