A modified viscosity implicit-type proximal point algorithm for monotone inclusions and asymptotically nonexpansive mappings in Hadamard spaces.

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this article is to propose a modified viscosity implicit-type proximal point algorithm for approximating a common solution of a monotone inclusion problem and a fixed point problem for an asymptotically nonexpansive mapping in Hadamard spaces. Under suitable conditions, some strong convergence theorems of the proposed algorithms to such a common solution are proved. Our results extend and complement some recent results in this direction.

Project description:The purpose of this paper is to propose a modified proximal point algorithm for solving minimization problems in Hadamard spaces. We then prove that the sequence generated by the algorithm converges strongly (convergence in metric) to a minimizer of convex objective functions. The results extend several results in Hilbert spaces, Hadamard manifolds and non-positive curvature metric spaces.

Implicit contractive mappings in modular metric and fuzzy metric spaces.

Project description:The notion of modular metric spaces being a natural generalization of classical modulars over linear spaces like Lebesgue, Orlicz, Musielak-Orlicz, Lorentz, Orlicz-Lorentz, and Calderon-Lozanovskii spaces was recently introduced. In this paper we investigate the existence of fixed points of generalized α-admissible modular contractive mappings in modular metric spaces. As applications, we derive some new fixed point theorems in partially ordered modular metric spaces, Suzuki type fixed point theorems in modular metric spaces and new fixed point theorems for integral contractions. In last section, we develop an important relation between fuzzy metric and modular metric and deduce certain new fixed point results in triangular fuzzy metric spaces. Moreover, some examples are provided here to illustrate the usability of the obtained results.

Fixed point theorems for generalized α -β-weakly contraction mappings in metric spaces and applications.

Project description:We extend the notion of generalized weakly contraction mappings due to Choudhury et al. (2011) to generalized α-β-weakly contraction mappings. We show with examples that our new class of mappings is a real generalization of several known classes of mappings. We also establish fixed point results for such mappings in metric spaces. Applying our new results, we obtain fixed point results on ordinary metric spaces, metric spaces endowed with an arbitrary binary relation, and metric spaces endowed with graph.

Fixed point theorems for hybrid mappings.

Project description:We obtain some fixed point theorems for two pairs of hybrid mappings using hybrid tangential property and quadratic type contractive condition. Our results generalize some results by Babu and Alemayehu and those contained therein. In the sequel, we introduce a new notion to generalize occasionally weak compatibility. Moreover, two concrete examples are established to illuminate the generality of our results.

Project description:To be the best of our knowledge, the convergence theorem for the DC program and split DC program are proposed in finite-dimensional real Hilbert spaces or Euclidean spaces. In this paper, to study the split DC program, we give a hybrid proximal linearized algorithm and propose related convergence theorems in the settings of finite- and infinite-dimensional real Hilbert spaces, respectively.

Generalized contractive mappings and weakly α-admissible pairs in G-metric spaces.

Project description:The aim of this paper is to present some coincidence and common fixed point results for generalized (ψ, φ)-contractive mappings using partially weakly G-α-admissibility in the setup of G-metric space. As an application of our results, periodic points of weakly contractive mappings are obtained. We also derive certain new coincidence point and common fixed point theorems in partially ordered G-metric spaces. Moreover, some examples are provided here to illustrate the usability of the obtained results.

A pathway EM-algorithm for estimating vaccine efficacy with a non-monotone validation set.

Project description:Here, we consider time-to-event data where individuals can experience two or more types of events that are not distinguishable from one another without further confirmation, perhaps by laboratory test. The event type of primary interest can occur only once. The other types of events can recur. If the type of a portion of the events is identified, this forms a validation set. However, even if a random sample of events are tested, confirmations can be missing nonmonotonically, creating uncertainty about whether an individual is still at risk for the event of interest. For example, in a study to estimate efficacy of an influenza vaccine, an individual may experience a sequence of symptomatic respiratory illnesses caused by various pathogens over the season. Often only a limited number of these episodes are confirmed in the laboratory to be influenza-related or not. We propose two novel methods to estimate covariate effects in this survival setting, and subsequently vaccine efficacy. The first is a pathway expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm that takes into account all pathways of event types in an individual compatible with that individual's test outcomes. The pathway EM iteratively estimates baseline hazards that are used to weight possible event types. The second method is a non-iterative pathway piecewise validation method that does not estimate the baseline hazards. These methods are compared with a previous simpler method. Simulation studies suggest mean squared error is lower in the efficacy estimates when the baseline hazards are estimated, especially at higher hazard rates. We use the pathway EM-algorithm to reevaluate the efficacy of a trivalent live-attenuated influenza vaccine during the 2003-2004 influenza season in Temple-Belton, Texas, and compare our results with a previously published analysis.

A fast and scalable kymograph alignment algorithm for nanochannel-based optical DNA mappings.

Project description:Optical mapping by direct visualization of individual DNA molecules, stretched in nanochannels with sequence-specific fluorescent labeling, represents a promising tool for disease diagnostics and genomics. An important challenge for this technique is thermal motion of the DNA as it undergoes imaging; this blurs fluorescent patterns along the DNA and results in information loss. Correcting for this effect (a process referred to as kymograph alignment) is a common preprocessing step in nanochannel-based optical mapping workflows, and we present here a highly efficient algorithm to accomplish this via pattern recognition. We compare our method with the one previous approach, and we find that our method is orders of magnitude faster while producing data of similar quality. We demonstrate proof of principle of our approach on experimental data consisting of melt mapped bacteriophage DNA.

Several interesting consequences of our theorems are also given.

Partial rectangular metric spaces and fixed point theorems.

Project description:The purpose of this paper is to introduce the concept of partial rectangular metric spaces as a generalization of rectangular metric and partial metric spaces. Some properties of partial rectangular metric spaces and some fixed point results for quasitype contraction in partial rectangular metric spaces are proved. Some examples are given to illustrate the observed results.
