Empidinae (Diptera, Empididae) from Bulgaria with new records and descriptions of three new species.

ABSTRACT: Empis (Leptempis) rhodopensis Barták sp. n., Hilarabulgarica Barták sp. n., and Rhamphomyia (Amydroneura) stojanovae Barták sp. n. are described from Bulgaria. Altogether 32 species of Empididae are first reported from Bulgaria.

Project description:Faunistic records for 88 frit flies species from southwestern Turkey (Mu?la province) and from Samsun (north Turkey) are given. Two species, Dicraeus civelekisp. n., and Meromyza samsunensissp. n., are described as new to science. Altogether, nine genera (Calamoncosis, Eribolus, Gaurax, Incertella, Speccafrons, Trachysiphonella, Chloropsina, Eutropha, and Lagaroceras) and 46 species are recorded for the first time from Turkey.

Neotropical Nilothauma Kieffer, 1921 (Diptera, Chironomidae): Key, eleven new species, re-descriptions, new combination and new records.

Project description:Nine new species of Nilothauma Kieffer, N. hamadae sp. nov., N. jupau sp. nov., N. karitiana sp. nov., N. leccii sp. nov., N. marianoi sp. nov., N. mateusi sp. nov., N. txukuyana sp. nov., N. werekena sp. nov. and N. yekwana sp. nov. are described and figured, based on adult males collected in Brazil and N. maya sp. nov. on an adult male from Mexico; N. terena sp. nov. is described as male, pupa and larva based on a reared specimen from Brazil. Nilothauma aleta Roback, 1960 and N. duena Roback, 1960 are re-described and recorded from Brazil. Nilothauma longissimum Mendes & Andersen, 2009 is transferred to Beardius Reiss & Sublette, 1985 and the diagnosis of Nilothauma is emended. New records of thirteen Neotropical Nilothauma species are given and a key to the males of all known species of Nilothauma is provided.

Project description:Three new species of Nilothauma Kieffer are described and figured from Oriental China: Nilothauma angustum sp. n. based on the male only, Nilothauma aristatum sp. n. based on the male, pupa and larva, and Nilothauma bilobatum sp. n. based on the male and pupa. In addition, new distribution records are given for Nilothauma japonicum Niitsuma, Nilothauma nojirimaculatum Sasa, Nilothauma hibaratertium Sasa, and Nilothauma acre Adam & Sæther. A key to known males of Nilothauma Kieffer in China is provided.

Project description:The genus Toxorhina Loew from China is reviewed. Seven species belonging to the subgenus Ceratocheilus Wesche are recognized, of which three species, Toxorhina (Ceratocheilus) huanglicasp. n., Toxorhina (Ceratocheilus) omnifuscasp. n. and Toxorhina (Ceratocheilus) univirgatasp. n., are described as new to science, Toxorhina (Ceratocheilus) fuscolimbata Alexander is recorded from China for the first time, and three known species are redescribed and illustrated.

Rare orchid species in Malaysia: New records, recollections and amended descriptions.

Project description:Paphiopedilum exul, Calanthe chrysoglossoides, and Luisia brachystachys are reported here as new records for Malaysia, whereas Bryobium cordiferum subsp. borneense, Habenaria rostellifera, and Taeniophyllum rugulosum are three rare orchid species recollected from Sarawak, Perlis, and Perak, respectively. This paper highlights brief descriptions and photographic illustrations of each species for easy identification. Besides, notes on morphological comparisons with the closely related species and artificial taxonomic keys are included as well.

Descriptions of four new species of Bactrocera and new country records highlight the high biodiversity of fruit flies in Vietnam (Diptera, Tephritidae, Dacinae).

Project description:Recent snap-shot surveys for fruit flies in Vietnam in 2015 and 2017 using traps baited with the male Dacinae fruit fly lures methyl eugenol, cue-lure and zingerone, collected 56 species, including 11 new country records and another 11 undescribed species, four of which are described in this paper. This increases the number of described species known to occur in Vietnam from 78 to 93. Species accumulation curves, based on the Chao 2 mean estimate, suggest that we collected 60-85 % of the local fauna at the sites sampled, and that species diversity decreases with increasing latitude. The four new species are named: Bactrocera (Tetradacus) ernesti Leblanc & Doorenweerd sp. n., B. (Asiadacus) connecta Leblanc & Doorenweerd sp. n., B. (Parazeugodacus) clarifemur Leblanc & Doorenweerd sp. n., and B. (Bactrocera) adamantea Leblanc & Doorenweerd sp. n. In addition to morphological data COI DNA sequence data of both the COI-5P and COI-3P mitochondrial DNA gene regions is provided. Three of the four newly described species are morphologically and genetically easily distinguished from all other members of Dacini. Bactroceraclarifemur sp. n. is superficially similar to B.pendleburyi (Perkins) based on morphology, but there are several apomorphic characters to distinguish the two. Both COI and a segment of the nuclear gene Elongation Factor 1 alpha separate the two species as well.

New distributional records are presented: Megagrapha europaea Papp & Földvári, 2001 is first reported from Slovakia and Syndyas merzi Shamshev & Grootaert, 2012 is first reported from Turkey.
