Project description:The primary purpose of this study is to compare three interventions, two experimental and one standard of care (usual care), to see if the experimental interventions will increase the likelihood of a participant obtaining guideline-concordant genetic testing. Eligible participants will be randomized (assigned) to one of the following interventions: 1) Virtual genetics navigator, a mobile-optimized website, designed by the investigators, that delivers tailored messages and content; 2) two motivational interviewing (MI) telephone calls delivered by trained genetics health coaches; or 3) usual care.

Project description:Colorectal cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer mortality in France. However this cancer is preventable in the majority of cases by early detection of adenomas.
In France, there is organized colorectal cancer screening, which relies on general practitioners (GPs). Tests delivered by GPs are performed in 89% of cases. However, GPs do not systematically offer the test, for time management and communication reasons. Patients expect their GPs to offer the test and to focus on their expectations. A previous study conducted on GPs showed that training in communication and motivational interviewing increases the number of tests performed by 12.2%.
In order to facilitate the promotion of screening, the investigators would like to develop a training programme for GPs focusing on the application of Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques to the promotion of colorectal cancer screening.
Motivational Interviewing is a directive, client-centered counseling style for eliciting behavior change by helping clients to explore and resolve ambivalence.
This study is a multicenter trial in general medicine. In this randomized trial the 902 subjects will be included prospectively by the general practitioners (GP) participating in the study.
As a first step, general practitioners who have never participated in Motivational Interviewing training will be recruited and split into 2 groups by randomization, an intervention group and a control group. The interventional group will then undergo a 3 times 2-day training in Motivational Interviewing.
In a second step, the patients will be included by those GP and a self-questionnaire will be send at the inclusion and after 6, 12 and 24 months. The evaluation of the number of tests performed and the analyse of the Health Belief Model (HBM) self-questionnaire will be carried out.
At 24 months, there will be an evaluation of the denial motivation questionnaire for patients who have not participated in organized colorectal cancer screening.

Project description:Background and study aims
Colorectal cancer screening can help early detection of cancer. Motivational interviewing could be a strategy to increase people's intention and action toward screening. This study aims to estimate the feasibility and acceptability of the intervention and the preliminary estimation of its effect on screening intention and uptake, knowledge and health beliefs of participants.
Who can participate?
People aged between 50-75 years old without a history of colorectal cancer

•Consequent Follow-up reminder calls. Intervention 2: One parallel control group of usual care will be designed in this study. That is, counselees (index patients or FDRs) in control group will receive a simple doctor recommendation that screening is necessary should be done in FDRs, and that they better to inform their FDRs, as happened in routine care, the main source of recommendation is doctor’s recommendation. Project description:RATIONALE: Finding out which communication method affects a participant’s decision to undergo colorectal cancer screening may help increase the number of participants who undergo screening. It is not yet known which communication method is more effective in increasing how often participants undergo colorectal cancer screening.
PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying traditional print communication methods to see how well they work compared with simple electronic communication methods or usual care in increasing how often older women undergo colorectal cancer screening.

Project description:Primary Aim: To evaluate the effect of a lifestyle intervention delivered through telephone-based motivational interviewing (MINT) versus a patient navigation intervention on blood pressure reduction and CRC screening.
Hypotheses: Among black men, aged > 50 years with uncontrolled HTN and in need of CRC screening:
1. Hyp. 1: those randomized to the lifestyle intervention will have lower BP compared to those randomized to the patient navigation intervention at 6 months.
2. Hyp. 2: those randomized to the patient navigation intervention will have higher CRC screening rates compared to those randomized to the lifestyle intervention at 6 months.

Project description:Compared to other racial groups, African Americans have the highest colorectal cancer (CRC) morbidity and mortality rates. Although colonoscopies can prevent CRC, nearly one third of African Americans have not received a screening colonoscopy within the recommended time frame (one colonoscopy per ten years). It is critical to increase African Americans’ screening colonoscopy rates in order to reduce racial inequities in CRC morbidity and mortality. Previous research suggests that a motivational interviewing based intervention may help improve screening colonoscopy uptake. This study will conduct a randomized clinical trial examining the efficacy of a motivational interviewing informed tablet app, called e-Motivate, to improve African Americans’ screening colonoscopy uptake. Participants will be African Americans who receive a referral for a screening colonoscopy. Participants (N=200) will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: (1) usual care group (N=100); or (2) e-Motivate app group (N=100). Participants in the usual care group will receive standard clinical care which includes patient navigation (e.g., scheduling, reminder calls). Participants in the e-Motivate group will complete the e-Motivate app in the clinic immediately after they receive a referral for the screening colonoscopy. The participants in the e-Motivate app group will also receive usual care. Six months following the initial referral, participants’ medical charts will be reviewed to determine whether the participants completed the recommended screening colonoscopy. Secondary outcomes (e.g., bowel prep quality, number of cancellations) will also be analyzed.
